I’m not saying that it isn’t time to re-evaluate. I’m only saying the program is better than the naysayers are claiming and that the resources aren’t as good as they claim. If you go chasing glory, the more likely outcome is to fall even further into true mediocrity. LSU is not getting a proven head coach with a better track record.

So settling for not making the WCWS but claiming to be a top 12-16 team is fine? Torina has proven that she simply cannot get there anymore. 7 years is long enough to prove that in a sport that only a handful of schools care about. It is clear that she won't get it done.

I would rather try a young up and comer and take a chance than just settle for what LSU has now with Torina. At least you can have some hope. With her, there is none.

Let’s see what she can do with Berzon and Heavener next year. If it’s more of the same, then perhaps it’s time.

The same thing we hear every off-season only to have a repeat now seven years in a row of disappointment. This is an exercise in futility with you. Are you her husband or relative?

It’s pretty hard to get fired from a low level women’s sport. I’m sure she’ll be here as long as she wants

Torina is not a coach that will win championships! She is a coach that is just good enough to keep her job, nothing more nothing less

Being Top 8 4x in 12 years & still earning multiple more Super Regional appearances is not "mediocre". By definition she's got her program in the Top 16 more often than not. There are 250 NCAA D1 softball teams. I get it. She's not winning National Championships. And we're getting more than used to doing so at LSU. But she's better than mediocre. That said: are her results acceptable, given how we as alumni/students/fana value Championships at LSU? No.

She is the sunbelt Billy of college softball.

Again, the resources and support available at LSU are significantly more than those schools, so yes it is reasonable to expect more than a top 16 team.

Those words still do not mean "mediocre".

Getting to the WCWS zero times in 7 straight seasons is mediocre.

This could be true IF during that same year that the program never made it to or out of a Regional.

By definition mediocre means:
"of only moderate quality; not very good."

Once again, to consistently compete & finish withi. the Top 35 of programs out of 250 > mediocre. We, at LSU, find that unacceptable. But let's not going around misusing words. We are supposed to be, at least we as alumni, educated.

Has SELU coach won a title? If lsu makes a change, want someone proven (with hardware). And the pressure is on to win one within 3-4 years.

Or in other words she made it 4 of first 6 years and then 0 for last 7.

Yea I’d say she failed to maintain or recapture momentum.

Compared to 2 in school history before that.

Oh the program that played for 3 years and then was disbanded until 1997? There’s a lot of context you’re leaving out here

Benchmarking is what matters when measuring performance dude. How many of those 250 programs would LSU consider its peer programs? How LSU stacks up against Abilene Christian University’s softball team is irrelevant.

A much better measure of success is how we’ve fared in conference play and WCWS appearances. Since COVID, we’ve finished no better than 6th in the SEC and we have zero WCWS appearances. So yes, that is the definition of mediocre.

With OU and Texas coming to the SEC, you can definitely knock LSU down one maybe even two pegs in the conference pecking order if Torina is retained.

Agree with all of this.

4 times in 13 years? What team, other than Oklahoma, has done more than that?

Did ya'll actually read the whole OP? 4 times came her first 6 years. The problem is her last 7 years and not getting there when she has her fingerprints all over it and not the previous regimes.

Making 4 of 12 WCWS is still 3x more frequently than the 2 in 18 years before Torina, including a 7 year drought before she was hired.

Since Beth has been at LSU, the following teams have been to the WCWS more times than LSU:

UCLA
Alabama
Florida
Washington
Arizona
Tennessee
Oklahoma State

There are another handful that have just as many WCWS appearances as we do during that time.
