with her last coming 7 years ago. She is what she is, and a championship coach she is not.
No SEC conference titles.
No SEC Tournament titles.
Again, given the resources available to her, she has done nothing of note when it comes to the post-season and even with a bunch of regular season wins, she has never won anything of value either.
You can continue to support her and mediocrity, but LSU needs a change.
Football, Women's Basketball, Baseball, Gymnastics and Men's T&F have all won National titles since the last time Torina's team even made the WCWS for goodness sake.
But keep on pumping her up.

I always forget she has been here since 2011. It just doesn't seem like that long.

Does just enough every year to keep her job

Softball Nikki must go!
Beth Torina has been at LSU long enough and should be out the door now.
OK Scott, start at the Top (Gasso and White) then work your way down if #1 and #2 are not interested in a change of scenery for $$$$BIG MONEY$$$$. (Like Mulkey)
Money Talks!

She’s the Kirk Ferentz of softball

She’s still a, what is it, “pump lump mediocrity acceptor’s” coach

Compared to 2 in school history before that.
People keep saying that, but she’s only the 5th highest paid coach in the SEC.

Being Top 8 4x in 12 years & still earning multiple more Super Regional appearances is not "mediocre".
By definition she's got her program in the Top 16 more often than not. There are 250 NCAA D1 softball teams.
I get it. She's not winning National Championships. And we're getting more than used to doing so at LSU.
But she's better than mediocre.
That said: are her results acceptable, given how we as alumni/students/fana value Championships at LSU? No.

When she can say the same she can earn this comparison

But does he invest in a sport that doesn’t make money?

Not sure how big dog hunting it would be for softball but the SELU Coach would be a heck of an up and comer choice!

Again, the resources and support available at LSU are significantly more than those schools, so yes it is reasonable to expect more than a top 16 team.

Getting to the WCWS zero times in 7 straight seasons is mediocre. The program has regressed since her first 7 years. She is living off the first half of her time at LSU.
First 7 years: 4 WCWS appearances.
Second 7 years: 0 WCWS appearances.
Once the built in foundation wore away and she had to stand on her own, the program has become mediocre. Plain and simple.

LSU is a Top 10-12 program. Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas are all ahead of them in the SEC and LSU has no resource advantages over any of them. The same is true for Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma St. and FSU. UCLA has tradition and a recruiting hotbed. Arizona traditionally was better but is in a rut. Stanford is temporarily riding the best pitcher in the country. There is no inherent reason for LSU to be better than any of those programs.

This is the most telling statistic of all.

so you are just settling for a coach hasn't really done anything in the last seven seasons? Those schools you just mentioned how many of them have not been to the college world series in seven years? I just know that LSU is a great brand and can bring someone in that can jump start this softball program again.

It’s 6 seasons, but Arkansas hasn’t made the WCWS and Tennessee has only been once since 2014. Washington is the one other program you could place in front of LSU. Other than that, programs have risen and fallen over the last 6 years.
I’m not saying that it isn’t time to re-evaluate. I’m only saying the program is better than the naysayers are claiming and that the resources aren’t as good as they claim. If you go chasing glory, the more likely outcome is to fall even further into true mediocrity. LSU is not getting a proven head coach with a better track record. The question is whether it’s time to take a chance on an up-and-comer. Let’s see what she can do with Berzon and Heavener next year. If it’s more of the same, then perhaps it’s time.
