Tell me what of this criteria Tommy Hodson meets:
For reference, HOF requirements:
quote:
Athletes must have demonstrated truly unusual and outstanding accomplishments, exceeding and in addition to all criteria used for Hall of Fame selection. The athletic performance must be considered unique, such as winning of a Heisman Trophy or National Player of the Year award, and should be based on the total LSU career.
Athletes may also be considered for making dramatic impact on the popularity of his or her sport or for significant participation in positive change in LSU Athletics. Nominees must have a unanimous vote of support from the Hall of Fame committee.
For reference, HOF requirements:
quote:
To be eligible for the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame in the Athlete category, an individual must have earned a college degree and gained national distinction through superlative performance. Hall of Fame candidates must also have established a personal reputation for character and citizenship.
• To be eligible in the Coach/Administrator category, the individual must have made significant contributions to LSU Athletics and gained national distinction through exceptional accomplishments in his or her field of expertise while establishing an image that reflects favorably upon the University.
• To be eligible in the Distinguished Honor category, which was established in 2023, the individual must have contributed to the advancement and growth of a sport at LSU, or laid a path or expanded opportunities for LSU student-athletes.

Personally agree with Notre Dam's approach. You, the player get to use that number. When you graduate* it goes back to the team.

If you adjusted Hodson's numbers for the modern era
No
I like Hodson. But he was a 4 year starter, which is almost unheard of today. He didnt win us any trophies, nor holds any single season records. If you retire his number, then you have to do the same for Nussmeier
Career Yards
#1 Hodson
#3 Nuss
Single Season Yardage
#2 Nuss
Hodson not ranked
Passing TDs
#2 Hodson
#4 Nuss
TDs in a Season
#3 Nuss
#10 Hodson
Single Game TDs
#2 Nuss
Hodson not ranked
Win %
.682 Nuss
,673 Hodson

First, Jayden won the throphy...5 is retired if 9 & 20 is retired.
Set up a standard for retiring numbers, then set up a standard for the ring of honor. No emotions, a hard standard. And include a chance for the OL & defenders. Maybe establish a review board of guys already included in the ring...

Possibly. I would put him in the top 6 or so QBs to ever play at LSU.
What about YA Tittle?

While I don't dislike Hodson or disagree he was a great, you can't retire every jersey because there has to be an abundance of numbers for the team to wear.
You must not realize that there is a difference between retiring a jersey and retiring a number. Billy Cannon's #20 is retired. Charlie Alexander's jersey was retired last season, not his number. I know it is just a ceremony and symbolic but that is how you do it and Tommy Hodson deserves it.

I was surprised to discover that Hodson still holds most of the quarterback-related records at LSU. One glaring exception is yards rushing and TDs scored, that would be of course Jayden Daniels.

what color jersey of Tommy's should be retired baw?
Posted on 3/31/26 at 5:58 pm to Sissidog02
Glenn Dorsey is the best lineman in LSU History, I think Patrick Peterson is the best Defensive Player in LSU History, but it's Apples and Oranges, Burrow and Daniels should have their #; retired if LSU Plans on Retiring anymore numbers.
