re: Tired of seeing hurricane Ida used as an excuse for poor attendance

It's a combination of things.
- Covid protocols
- Looking so poorly early on
- Playing McNeese and CMU
- Ida destroying people's property/causing a lack of hotel rooms
I guarantee you there are people that fall into each and every one of these categories as to why they didn't go. We can't sit here and say its one particular thing for every person, because it's not.

As with most things in life the it is never just one thing. However, to discount Ida's impact on attendance is silly. A lot of areas in S. Louisiana where hit hard. Spending an entire Saturday to watch LSU play CMU is just not a great use of time for people trying to respond to damage caused by the hurricane.
Your OP is a bit misleading because it fails to address that the game in 2008 (in addition to being the season opener after the 2007 NC...vs. a team that pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season the year before) took place BEFORE the hurricane made landfall. If that game had been played after the hurricane made landfall I suspect it would have been a different story. In fact, the Troy game set for the Saturday after Gustav hit was postponed to November. The N. Texas game two weeks after Gustav was somewhat sparsely attended despite (technically) being a sellout.
Is Hurricane Ida the ONLY reason for spotty attendance for the last two games? No. But it IS a reason. That, coupled with 2020 apathy...frustration from the UCLA loss and two..."unexciting" opponents are part of the reason ALONG with people not wanting to deal with the vaccination mandates.
Assuming LSU can win this Saturday the litmus test for the impact of the vaccine mandates will be the Auburn game. Marquee SEC opponent. Likely a night game. In October with (hopefully) at bit nicer weather than in Sept. At that point it will also have been over a month since Ida. If attendance is weak for THAT game then you can start to peg a lot of that on the vaccine restrictions.

People have been complaining about low attendance for crappy opponents long before Covid/Ida/poor performance. When was the last time they had 100,00+ actually in the seats for an opponent like Central Michigan or McNeese?

This is true, but the first two games have been very poorly attended, even by weak OOC opponents standards.

win in starkville and let's see what tiger stadium looks like next saturday
it will obviously be better. But will it be up to LSU standards for an SEC opponent? I hope I am wrong but I think not.
And watch you will have people come on here and say it wasnt bad there were about 75 K in there. But that is fricking terrible attendance.

MY SILs house was crushed by a tree and they were at the game Saturday.

Honestly it's just easier and more convenient to watch from home. Put the game on HDTV, park your arse in a recliner under the ac, no traffic or parking issues before and after the game, fix your own snacks and food that's way better than Aramark concessions, and no standing in line to use the restroom.

There isn’t one sole reason why the attendance is low. It’s a confluence of factors; some LSU can control while some they cannot.
Loss to UCLA
The manner with which LSU lost had a lot of fans saying frick this I’m not going until I see improvement.
Covid restrictions
The fact we have any at all has a lot of fans saying frick this I’m not going until these are completely removed
The first two opponents
Playing McNeese st. And CMU have a lot of fans saying frick this I’m not going until the opponent is worth while
Hurricane ida
Against McNeese people still didn’t have power in the southeast portion of the state. Some still don’t. In addition, hotel reservations were cancelled so out of towners couldn’t go to the games even if they wanted too.
So in totality these are all factors working against having a packed house.

My MIL has stated she doesn’t feel comfortable going to TS right now due to Covid. She’s vaccinated and she’s been to every home game since 2011 at a minimum (how long I’ve known her).
I’m not saying she’s scared of her shadow but the idea of large groups in close proximity to each other right now troubles her to the point she didn’t want to go to the first 2 games.

People that don’t think the mandates are causing a lot of the attendance issues are blind and kidding themselves.
Our fans don’t show up when it rains. They leave early. The team has been awful. You think the mandates aren’t going to make people just want to avoid the headaches altogether? Of course it’s having an effect.
Be for the mandates all you want but don’t kid yourselves into thinking it’s not having an effect.

I agree. The only effect the Ida had/has is that hotel rooms are harder to come by (basically non-existent the first two games). However, I think the main problem is LSU's culture the last few years. We have went to full woke starting in 2020, then started the ridiculous covid protocols.
I cannot speak for everyone, but for the two reasons above I have cancelled 8 season tickets (4 for 2020, last 4 for 2021). Our household and office also reduced the amount of donations sent in to the TAF.
I do think, as some posters have already said, that the teams piss poor performance the first 2 weeks and mediocrity the last game, have led others to skip attending. When you have a team that is kicking arse and taking names, people will line up to watch it without consideration of what they have to give up to do so.
But, when your team is looking like a bottom tier SEC feeder the last two years, and THEN you include deterrents such as masks and Vax/Neg. test, your attendance will surely decline. Hopefully, the big wigs in charge can get this ship righted and the culture changed.

It's the vaccine mandate and the wokeism of LSU now. You think people were joking when half of TD said they wouldn't send their kids to LSU now? I love LSU but I'm done supporting them financially until they stop this this horse shite.
And you get downvoted for stating your position. I agree. It pains me that this is going on and I would have ABSOLUTELY attended these two games and the UCLA game (pheww glad I didnt) if it were not for the woke stance as well as vaccine BS. My kids, regardless of TOPS, will not be attending LSU (yes I’m an LSU grad).

This is just not true - We sold out the stadium in 2008 THE DAY of a hurricane.. The game was moved to 10a and it was hot as hell but the fans still came. Hurricane ain't the problem.
I said this a few days ago but I know a handful of people in St John and St Charles that are still dealing with the damage left by Ida. McNeese and Central Michigan aren't their priority right now.
If I'm one guy and I know a handful of people, common sense would say there's more than just a handful of people that typically would attend the game, that can't or won't right now for reasons outside of Covid protocols.

I’m really hoping we can beat Miss St. easily and people will realize that the vaccine/test requirements aren’t really enforced so we can have a legitimate crowd for Auburn. The last two weeks have been pitiful minus the students

Problem is the attendance requirements and quality of play
Quality of play is by far the biggest issue.
Attendance requirements is bullshite, I know many, many fans who boo hoo'd about the covid stuff and swore they weren't going, boycott etc.
Wanna know which ones actually haven't gone??? None. They have all been at both games
Yes it may have deterred some but that's not the driver of low attendance.
shite showing vs UCLA, rent a wins and just people who don't like the current staff

Some people want to send a message to LSU. I don’t know what percentage of the no shows are, but some people will not attend as long as they have checks.

There were 39 people at the App. State game. And that’s LSU being defending National Champs. You have revisionist history. Not accurate!
