MO is an oddball force fit here. You're jumping over states and teams to fit them in. Historically, OK would be the team they should be matched with (96 games played). Ark is the most natural rival and closest. TAMU should be with us, especially if they want to be.

Columbia is further East than Fayetteville. They really don’t “fit” perfectly anywhere, but there are deep SWC ties between Arkansas, Texas and A&M. Those three naturally fit and you have to put Mizzou somewhere.

It is more gay to want to play in the old big 12 over our old rivals

They can preserve the cross division rivalries by sticking teams in the same pod.

I’m in Tenn this weekend and was listening to a local radio show that had on Tony Barnhart. Fwiw he said he thinks the pods will be as follows. He had his reasoning behind each pod.
East- UT, UF, UGA and USC
North- Bama, AU, UK and Vandy
South- LSU, OM, MSU and Ark
Southwest- Tex, OU, TaM and Mizz

TB thinks they’ll keep the old Big12 teams together.
The host had a problem with South, didn’t hear the reasoning as I was getting out.

Probably because unless you are an LSU fan you can see just how much easier that pod is for LSU than the other three are for the better teams.

What LSU fan would want that AND what would it matter… We would add four to five out of ‘pod’ opponents regardless. Split the longhorns and sooners between East and West division and let’s rumble

The closest schools are Arky, Vandy, Kent, and OK (not a huge amount of difference among the last three). So MO fits well with 2 of the 3 teams in your pod.

There are deep ties between MO and OK. MO has played 132 games (maj OK) with OK, Ark, and TX. MO has played a total of 15 games with LSU, OM, and MSU.

TAMU has played more games, 232 (mostly TX, then Ark), with TX, Ark, and OK. TAMU has also played 83 games (mostly LSU) with LSU, OM, and MSU, not an insignificant number.

I think TX and OK would want Arky. They may be split on TAMU and MO. Arky probably wants to be in TX as much as possible regardless of ties. This said, given the nature and effect of this expansion the opinions of TAMU and MO matter most. If they can't work it out, then I would do what TAMU wants to do. I would not force this otherwise.

Tony Barnhart

Regardless of what he rationalizes, he wants this because he thinks it's a good story that practically writes itself.

Arkansas plays us harder than A&M. Even during our best years they give us a fight.

What is the bigger rivalry, Texas-A&M or LSU-A&M? Go ahead, I'll wait. You could argue that Texas-Arkansas is a bigger rivalry, historically, than A&M-LSU. I like playing A&M more than Arkansas, no doubt, but neither LSU nor Arkansas deserve to be moved into further away from the heart of the SEC.

and we’ve played them way more times than Arkansas.

Nope. We've played Arkansas 66 times and A&M 59 times and they have each beaten us 22 times. That said, A&M is still more of a rival, it means more when we beat them (sucks more when Arkansas beats us), and having A&M in our quad makes for more balanced quads conference wide. I would give up the Golden Boot to keep the annual A&M game.

Arkansas still leads the series against A&M 41-31-3.

Its amazing this has held up despite A&M's 9 game winning streak against them.

No, just have an SEC divisional draft. All the SEC teams go into the pool. Two dudes take turns picking teams. About as fair as any other method.

But now LSU won’t get a pod of historical rivalries like ole miss, moo state

if you truly wanted historical rivals, you want Alabama and Florida instead of Arkansas

What about swapping MSU instead? That is lesser of a fit geographically putting them with TX,OU and Mizzou. But LSU would keep Arkansas game, Ole Miss history and have A&M. Probably won't happen but just a thought.

So this has Texas A&M and Texas in different pods.

With this logic they should put:

Alabama and Auburn in different pods.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State in different pods.

Tennessee and Vanderbilt in different pods

Fair is fair.

Pods that make sense:

Texas, Arky, Mizzou, Oklahoma

LSU, A&M, Miss State, Ole Miss

Bama, Auburn, Vandy, Tennessee

Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky
