An 8 team playoff makes too much sense. We really need to do it. Anyone know about the current contract and when this could possibly get done?

An 8 team playoff and we need to address the other issue: what do we do about teams that don't play in a championship game? It really should be an all teams are required to play in one, or none of them are and we stop penalizing teams for losses in their championship games.

It's not, but the decision and changes need to be made accordingly. I have a hard time leaving out a possible 1 loss conference runner up for an undefeated team that didn't play in a championship game, and the current system leaves that open. Hell, had LSU not beat UGA this year, it would have happened.

Five P5 conference champions, two at-large and the best G5 conference champion doesn't leave that much wiggle room for teams that don't play a conference championship game either, but if they do get in it means they're definitely ranked in the top 8 and deserve their shot.
Maybe the final CFP rankings should be released before the conference championship games and freeze until after the bowls? That way a conference championship game wouldn't hurt or help a ranking, but serve as a true "play-in"
ETA: there'd also probably need to be a clause where if no G5 is in the top 16 or whatever then just use three at-large bids, and of course no more than two teams from the same conference.

Dump the Rent A Wins, go all conference play, reducing the number of regular season games, keep the conference championship, do 8 or 16 game playoff

for an organization that argues it's too many games for the student athletes to have a playoff like every other level of college fb pretty hard. They want the bowls to remain and have lengthened the season to 12 games with a 13th for some conferences since saying it's too many games. If they are worried about too many games they would go back to 11 game season and have a 16 team playoff...but it will never happen.

Is it even glorified? It's 100% an exhibition game. Unless you have a stipulation in your contract that rewards you for having 10 total wins in a season.
For everyone else, it's an exhibition.

It honestly needs to be more than 4. You are forcing one P5 champ to be left out every year, and in the years that ND gets more than 9 wins and gets in, you are forcing two conference champs out. Either 6 or 8 would be ok.

So by this logic, Alabama would have been kept out last year because they didn't play in the SEC Championship? Georgia gets in because they won, and you would have to take Auburn before Alabama? I'm reading this right?
