I have to respectfully disagree here. The conference championship games need to mean something. That's why you play those games.

The Big 12 finally figured that out and started to have a Big 12 Championship game, just for that reason. Instead of what it did before where the team that had the best record was "awarded" the title of Big 12 Champion. Those games count.

This is the way it is present day, I'm not referring to how it used to be.

Win the conference, strength of schedule improves.


My issue is that should a team not win it's division and/or it's conference, that should be the opposite of the above. That should hurt whatever that team may be.

But it didn't hurt Alabama last year when Auburn won the west, went to the SEC championship and lost to Georgia. Georgia then gets a lot of brownie points for winning the conference, sending them to the playoffs.

Meanwhile Alabama sits home, playing one less game but still goes to the playoffs. Sounds very similar to what happened with us in 2011, I know there were no playoffs at the time but you get the picture.
