Yeah. I think they can be great to elite with the fielding and hitting, but I just don't see how we get past the pitching issues.

Not to worry CJJ’s pitching staffs turn a complete 180 by season’s end. We just have to hope they improve a lot more quickly than that 24’ team did.

More than a hair away, but I like the optimism. I trust Jay.

That can change quickly. At this time last year everyone on here was bitching about Pitching. We had no relievers and Eyanson was not SEC quality. Every Sunday was a total mystery. And then Eyanson developed, and then we had Evans and Cowan and a few more that stepped up. Jay is famous for sticking with players that this site dumps on and having them turn into studs. Everyone on here dumped on Tommy Tanks when he made the move from DH to 3rd, look how that turned out.

I mean we also have the worst fielding percentage in the SEC and rank 11th in the SEC in batting average. This team has to improve a ton before they are an Omaha contender.

but that pitching staff is going to have to improve bigly.

It always does. That’s been a consistent theme with Yeskie. It usually doesn’t click until late, especially the bullpen, but it’s happened the last three seasons.

Uh, CJJ better have this team working on not making errors if they want to be a hair away. Get rid of 1/2 those errors and we have a different record, but it is what it is. We have to get better in the field.

We have seen this team hit, so there will be games where the hitting will show up big.

We have seen JJ/Yeskie teams pitch, so we can have some faith that once they get the 6-7 guys they can depend dialed in, the pitching will be good enough.

I don't think this team will ever be "great to elite" defensively though. Thats not an area that you just turn on over night. Catching is bad defensively. 2B has been bad. 3B and 1B not much better. You basically have an OF (now that Stanfield is back) and Milam who are good on defense. shite, when you put in a defensive sub and he immediately makes a costly error, it's a problem.

They just need to steal some wins for the time being. They're not playing very good in any phase of the game, but that can all change.

If they go 3-12 like 2014 did to start SEC play, it could be bad for this group.

We're not a national seed this year, that much is given. But I also don't think this team is going to be sitting at home for the postseason.

We've won 2 of the past 3 national titles, I'm inclined to cut Jay some slack and let him work with this group before I write off the season.

That’s baseball

Many ways to look at this.

Over 20 walks in a series is unacceptable. For any team over the age of 8.

Giving up those runs against the #2 HR hitting team in the country with a 30+ mph wind blowing straight out all weekend is a different story

If Cowan pitches like he did this weekend, we are a better team. I have confidence in our starters. Hitting is all over the place. We have shown we have talent, but it is hard to know if we will be consistent at this point.

No doubt, and we HELPED them all weekend with a combined 28 free passes over a 3-game series. Tell anyone you are going to give the other team 28 free bases, and you are going to get swept, by crooked numbers.

We played better on Sunday for a W, and I believe most would agree we should have won the Friday night opener. The team has much work to do. The core-players (Milam, Brown, Curiel, Stanfield, etc) of this team need to pull & push the others with them, and we need to figure out the pitchers who can consistently pound the zone in SEC play. If you can't, have a darn seat.

Let's build on the Sunday W and keep moving forward.

I think we beat both.

If we put guys on base with walks and bad defense they both will absolutely wear our arse out. They are 1&2 in SB.
