That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. These kids don’t give two shits about John Robinson or know who John Robinson was because he was long gone before their dad was born. What the frick.

Assuming they lived and grew up there and were USC fans. So we are to assume that the Robinson hire was solely to appeal to the pool of recruits whose parents lived and grew up in Los Angeles in the late 70s-early 80s and were USC football fans? And that because the coach of those USC teams is now a special consultant at LSU, their son should go there?

Has anyone said solely besides the OP? I wasn’t agreeing with the OP on that part

You said Robinson would be an asset in recruiting, I'm just trying to figure out the area where he would be helping.

Recruiting is about more than the kids. It’s about their parents, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandparents, etc. he would certainly be known to the older folks.

Yes it's about building relationships. This dude isn't going to go into the homes of kids in South Louisiana and woo their families.

Seriously reaching on this.

Coach Robinson a legend bordering on a deity in SoCal. He was Nick Saban before Saban.

You are nuts. I am not knocking Rob but that is crazy talk. He won one title.

Robinson is Les Miles. Both inherited well oiled machines at USC for Rob and LSU for Miles. Both won a natty in their 3rd season.

Robinson is 140-78-4 in his college career (.640%)

Miles is 142-55 in his career (.720%)

If CEO has Coach Robinson join him during in home visits in SoCal, that will close the deal for a lot of families.

If you knew a damn thing about recruiting, you would know that this is illegal. analyst cannot recruit even on campus, which I am sure they all fudge on sometimes. But they damn sure cannot go on the road and have any contact at all. Hell, analyst cannot even work with current players what makes you think they can talk to recruits? Even if any of this were allowed. Orgeron is supposed to be this all mighty football whisperer in California. What in the hell would he need a 83 year old coach that none of these kids have ever even heard of before to recruit them? I am not knocking the hire but the reasons being given here are retarded.

Have you looked at our recruiting class this year? We’re increasing our reach drastically. The “cali to the boot” thing isn’t just a one class move. We’re trying to nationally recruit on a consistent basis.

I don’t know all of the recruiting rules, but my understanding is that he can talk to kids when they’re on campus. Someone else feel free to correct if that’s inaccurate

I certainly don't either but common sense would say if they cannot work with current players on the team that they cannot be recruiting players on campus.

Seriously

I don't know why this can't just be considered a neutral hire, maybe somewhat beneficial hire that doesn't move the needle much one way or the other.

No, the hire probably isn't some sign that O is incapable of modernizing the program. And no, hiring 84 year old John Robinson probably isn't going to pave some new in-roads for us to plunder California of high school football talent.

Why? The same ole posters that normally bash lsu are already here, spreading sarcasm and taking shots. Anything that can ever remotely taken positive, they are here with quickness to dismiss

I think the coaches of the kids know Robinson, and that may put LSU on the radar for a few.

Hell, that is money well spent
