The only thing wrong with the Saban documentary is

I was part of the mob that chased down the bama buses rolling in to yell profanities at Saban his first game back to LSU. It was a crazy scene that day.

The narrative they were pushing that we couldn’t recruit black players from Louisiana was worse.
The Saban’s really dumped on LSU in this doc. The only episode I watched was the Death Valley one and I regret watching that.

They made it seem like it was the whole state was my problem. But it really was just New Orleans. The other big time prospects just left the state because LSU sucked as a football program for a while.

He and Miss Terry also shite all over our facilities and kept bringing up there was no academic center.. I remember him making a big deal about it after it opened, but I don’t believe it was really that much off a point of contention originally. It was college football in the 90’s. There was no real facilities arms race back then. I imagine Bama’s facilities were dog shite, Texas, USC, Ohio St… I just have to imagine we were all on even keel. Maybe it’s just me but I think it was just this weird comment in order to craft some kind of pre-Saban adversity that didn’t really exist.
That was really my only negative about the LSU era.
I also think the NFL not working out has to still be sore for him. Watching the Belichick/Parcells 30 for 30 recently and seeing Saban spend that time in the pros, I think he deep down sees that as a mountain he couldn’t scale. Was he probably the greatest college coach of all time? Yes. But the Lombardi Trophy is still to me the greatest zenith of American sport. He has to think about it. I don’t know how he couldn’t.

It was after a hurricane. I remember going to watch LSU on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. Both in Tiger stadium.
Saban was booed but I don’t remember anything crazy but he was coaching on Sunday.
That was his first time back.
He just wasn’t a good NFL coach. So he went to Alabama. He realized that he was born to coach college football. The job at LSU wasn’t available. I don’t hate him or even dislike him for making those career changes. He probably would have always wondered about the NFL.
He found out. Quickly. He wasn’t done with coaching. He picked the best job available at the time.
I’ll always thank him for that NC. He’s a part of LSU history. I don’t hold any ill will at all toward him.
He became a legendary coach and LSU is a part of that. We met him a couple of times and both he and his wife were great folks. He has one of my husband’s artworks on his wall. Or he used to. It’s been awhile.
ETA: I haven’t seen the documentary. I’d like to watch it all, back to back episodes. What channel is it on?
