I would imagine they either aren't able to get Wade for whatever reason or the boosters don't want to pony up the money to buy McMahon and his staff out, but that's pure speculation.

Many on this board have says the terms of the buyout are very favorable to LSU. How true this is, I don’t know

What if there are some boosters that aren't willing to pay the amount needed to fire McMahon and hire a new coach and pay for a roster unless they get Wade? And what if there is another group of boosters that don't want Wade?

That’s where an effective AD would be helpful

Otherwise, we are simply a poorer version of the Longhorns

Yeah, I don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion. Based on what local media is saying, it is a factor, but I don't know if that's even true or how much they actually know.

What exactly do you want him to do?

Maybe promoting the top assistant to the AD that everyone hated wasn’t a great idea.

If you think Verge was a Woodward disciple, you're confused. His employment at LSU predates Woodward's original stay at LSU by 9 years.

Verge has been employed by the athletic department since 1991.

Woodward worked here from 2000-2008, then again from 2019-2025.

i love the LSU doesn't have $$$ to fire coaches discussion. people come on here saying we're in poverty and can't do it, inevitably the coach is fired. same thing will happen to mcmahon.

Boss,
Do u really think verge ausberry is making decisions?

We have left the world of the LSU AD making large hire/fire decisions in the rear view.

If he’s not fired it will be baffling and utterly ridiculous. But I won’t be shocked- just infuriated that LSU is this pitiful to say the second most profitable and second to football in popularity on a national basis is not valued in the least by LSU.

Any move prior to April 1 is premature and would cost LSU millions. IF something is gonna happen it will be AFTER April 1.

Popularity doesn’t pay anything, it’s a money decision- I imagine the people that boost the program want Wade. So it’s either Wade or no one, which keeping McCantWin is as good as no one.

There is another party involved in this, NC State. I suspect they will want to know ASAP if their coach is planning to leave so they can conduct a coaching search to replace him. Just like Ole Miss. NC State is not going to wait until 4/1 for a commitment from him. Plus, I don't think Wade would want to wait around for another (nearly) two weeks to start working on his LSU roster. If he's coming, he wants to get to work now.

At the latest, I think you will know something by early next week one way or the other. LSU's season is over. NC State's season is over. They are both focused on next year.

Also, McNeese's season just ended this afternoon. There were reports their AD was being considered for a position with LSU. He brushed off those reports. But it could have been because he didn't want to be a distraction to McNeese. Now, they are done too.

Or a guy who works very well with whatever power structure is in place and has worked his way up through the department. He has been, by all accounts, exceptional in supporter and alumni relations as well as fundraising.

But if your confirmation bias wants to see the Peter Principle, go right ahead.

If you wanted an AD with a tendency to do his own thing and buck his bosses a little more, you should have been sad when they moved on from Woodward.

The LSU athletic department provided a master class with Kiffin. Truly impressive and yet here we are months later giving free MBB tickets away and doing something incredibly dumb

Popularity doesn’t pay, but it’s a factor when the money people are making decisions.

If fans were as passionate for MBB as they are for baseball and had the same following, they would not hesitate to get rid of McMahon regardless of the cost.

I like Wade, but you would also hear other names being floated around if that was the case.

Being the third sport out of the big three, they are going to get short end of the stick.

Mcloser is the main reason basketball has lost so much popularity. He is like a vampire who has sucked all the life out of the program. Can't coach cant develop players and has completely refused to fund raise or promote the program.

Exactly, doesn’t have to be Wade and if they’re keeping McMahon because they can’t get one other guy then we have zero basketball people within an earshot of the admin. They’re making this look much harder than it is.
