I think you could label baserunning as the ugly. Thrown out multiple times and Larson with brain fart yesterday.

All in all, was a great weekend of baseball!

Nobody has really said it but for "bad" I would put Milam's weekend in that category. He went 2 for 11 with a walk and K, and he wasnt necessarily that bad, just the only guy who seemed to struggle somewhat consistently throughout the weekend. I know some scoffed at him being at the bottom of the lineup but I'm pretty sure he ended up there because his spring leading up into the season wasnt great and he might be working his way out of something. He missed some time in fall practice due to injury.

the ugly I saw was scratching my head as to why cjj does not use the same approach as other big programs and get your young bats in the game. Especially when you have swept the weekend. You can't develop them like that. This is a long season and if someone goes down God forbid guys have to be ready.

Ryan and Hogg are both freshman(Chris Martin told me they both run over 21 mph)/super fast no way I wouldn't have them running and swiping bags.

They both played. Ryan all 3 games, Hogg 2 of the 3 games

Did you watch any of the games this weekend? We played a plethora of people. I honestly thought Jay was too quick in pulling players at some points.

the ugly

On tv, it looks like the new seating down the lines were prefab bought from Amazon and just dropped in place.

What about those parking lot lines? Geez, they are like two inches wide and white. Practically all of the other SEC teams have passed us by on this, with yellow lines at least 3 inches wide. And the grass outside the stadium need watering.

I’m assuming you didn’t tune in much this weekend, true freshmen got 25 at bats according to my scorebook.

Tanner Reaves will more than likely assume a full time role if one of your infielders goes down. Mikey Ryan batted Friday & walked. David Hogg pinch ran Sunday and stole a base.

He cleared the bench in all 3 games and at least 15 guys got multiple at-bats this weekend. Hogg and Ryan not playing much may have more to do with Milam maximizing his game reps in a new position and letting him work his way out of his little mini-slump in the spring.

Predictably, the Catcher position is a concern. But fortunately there's a ton of time for Arrambide and Hernandez to get acclimated. We're going to need those guys to step up to win it all

Catcher is the only bad for me. All three look to be big swing & miss guys. I thought defensively were just ok, but that is easy to say when you don’t have any baserunners.

Same can be said for overall team defense; we hope it’s good but would never know after a weekend like this.

I’m hoping Arrambide can onboard quickly.

It’s a simple fix I’m not really worried about but can be critical in close games. The base running needs to get better. They got thrown out a good bit. A couple of the throw outs to 2nd looked to be because of bad jumps.

While the jumps surely contributed, several of those you just had to tip your hat to the catcher. He was throwing lasers right at the front of the bag.

Yep. Runners saw the ball down in the dirt and made an aggressive decision. Catcher made a hell of a throw on all of them. I don't hate the aggressive baserunning there.

The bad I did see was Curiel running 3-0 with tBear at the plate and getting hosed when you know he is getting a fastball. Hopefully that was a Freshman mistake he can learn from and not a coaching decision to run there. Ended up biting us too when they walked tBear and Dickinson hit the first bomb of the year the following batter.

The only position player I do not remember seeing was Eddie Yamin. Anyone notice if he came in but maybe just didn't get an at bat? There were, of course, some pitchers that did not get in, that will probably pitch Wednesday.

Yamin never entered, I wonder if the plan is to redshirt him and still have 2 years of playing time remaining after this one. Frankly there's just no playing time there for him this season it appears short of injuries. We have a ton of DH options they would turn to before him probably.

He was a little more developmental take in that he exploded from his freshman to sophomore year at Dayton but seemingly didnt have a for sure position yet in the field (he didnt take at catcher, and kind of tweener 1B/corner OF)

FWIW, Priester and Yamin have been hitting their way out of playing time in the spring scrimmages.

I’d love to see Larson take over the DH spot and crush it.

I think he's definitely earned that spot for now, maybe someone like Priester/Frey or Arrambide/Hernandez (if not catching) against LH starter.

Good point. Wasn't sure if he was a sure-fire draft guy. If not, taking a RS seems like a good idea. Especially since we will lose guys after this season, and the rosters shrink for 2026.

2. The bad.

If we are grasping at straws, there were SOME baserunning mistakes

-We had a guy thrown out on a 3-0 count with Jones at the plate. Close game at that point. Could’ve been a call.

-we had a guy try to advance to 3rd on a ball in the dirt. It wasn’t a PB/WP. We were up at that point 5 or 6 runs. Coach gave no signal either way.

I don’t think being caught stealing is necessarily a ‘bad’ and being aggressive on the base paths for this team is probably a ‘good,’ but there was such little else this weekend that bordered on ‘bad’ that it’s the only thing resembling a negative I can think of.
