but I would say both programs are on the same level.

Two questions:

If they played on a neutral field tomorrow, who are you taking?

Next season, same schedules, who has the better season?

I have Tenner in both.

No, it's because he's an a-hole that hasn't won anything and acts like he's God's gift to earth. The condescending bullshite only works when you're winning championships.

Why not?

The brand. Despite LSU's two shite seasons with Orgeron, the LSU football brand was still strong from 2019 and the Les era. Kelly took over a dumpster fire in a far easier situation to recruit. That's why Cignetti's success at IU is so impressive. He inherited a program that knew no winning culture. The last winning culture at Tennessee probably goes back to Fulmer.

I doubt Tennessee fans loved the feeling of the trajectory of their program last year

I hope I'm wrong, but something tells me I can bookmark this thread and not look back on this year as some bump in the road.

I don't think he's a jerk or prick. He is a cerebral type coach, not a motivating or passionate type coach. Also seems to lack a good sense of humor, or at least does not display one. I just find him somewhat flat. Hard to win if you cannot motivate your team to play to their best.

It isn't purely W/L record.
It's the fallout from how he departed Cincinnati. The Declan Sullivan incident where the AD he trashed on his way out lied through his teeth to protect BK and the football program. Constantly throwing players under the bus after his signature "We need to coach better".

The AD was just as, if not more, responsible for that incident as BK.

Probably Tennessee, but a single season means nothing in terms of where they both are as programs.

No idea in the transfer portal age.

They both will likely return veteran QBs and both have to replace significant portions of the o-line and d-line

I think Big Cat from Barstool said it best, and I know he’s not the world’s greatest football mind but I think he’s got a pretty good pulse of the general public and how they feel.

Anyway, on their show this week he said “I want to like LSU and it sucks that I can’t because Brian Kelly is such a fricking loser.”

Isn't that guy a Wisconsin fan??? Who gives a frick what that loser thinks?

Mulkey is hated by the national media too. I don't care if my coach is liked. Just win games.

It does matter to the brand. Mulkey can be dislikable because she wins. The brand there is a winning program.

No one likes Kelly. Not a single LSU fan liked him until he became our coach. People will handwave it, but LSU is in the headlines tonight for all the wrong reasons, and more so because of who Kelly is and how disliked he is.

Kelly has 2-3 more years because of his upcoming recruiting classes, barring a losing season.

LSU will have the #1 QB and a top 5 class next year. There will be no excuses at some point very soon.

So I will hold off on the knee jerks.

But id like to think most people agree that Kelly comes across as a real dick. And that only works if you’re winning titles, imo. So he has to get one with Underwood, or go enjoy his millions elsewhere.

But why? His sideline demeanor isn’t much different from other notable coaches

I think it has more to do with the fact that Kelly loves to run his mouth and hype his teams up like they’re going to do great things and then when the exact opposite happens, he’s flabbergasted as to what just happened.

…may not just be the public.

Will need to fend off a mass exodus come December.

As do I.
I’m no football expert, but I didn’t want the guy from the get go because he is so unlikable.
Then the ranters got me to the point of “oh well, at least we will win.”
Now I can’t wait for him to be gone.

Kelly before arriving at LSU was seen as an overrated coach. LSU fans once he was hired blamed Notre Dame and their strict academics for him never really achieving success. They said he never had the recruits he has now. LSU fans are now realizing they were right the first time and Kelly is an overrated coach.

Legit curious…aside from wins and losses and performance, why do people hate him?

I don't hate him. I believed he was overrated when he was at Notre Dame. He is proving me right so far. Him being a Yankee has nothing to do with my opinion about him.

Except that Brian Kelly himself said “Judge me in year three”

He really does. Disingenuous is a perfect word to describe him.

You might get invited to the estranged Mrs Kelly's Christmas party now.
