The fact that he won’t be able to come into Louisiana and poach our top recruits. Every National Championship team he had at Alabama was littered with kids from Louisiana at key positions. He made so many connections as the coach at LSU, he carried that pipeline over to Alabama. We will always have some kids leave, but it won’t all be to Alabama. Kelly is putting the wall back up and that should make us all excited.

This narrative was actually quite overblown. Most of the LA kids that ended up at Bama didn't live up to their hype.

Speedy went to A&M

And not sure your math is correct there. They’ve done pretty well with Louisiana players

The best thing about Saban is the real chance that the automatic talent conveyor belt will break down.

Bear Bryant had built a similar talent magnet. But after he retired, the talent base slowly declined. From his retirement until Saban’s rematch championship victory, LSU and Bama were 14-14-1.

This is absolutely a good take

Kelly already seems to have installed the moat around LA. Saban leaving only make it deeper.

I remember this board losing their minds over Ishmael Sopsher going to Bama. I don't even know what happened to that dude.

Devonta Smith was the probably best player we ever lost to Bama. Dude smiled less than Saban during a game his whole time at Bama though, so he was probably a better fit there.

i think all of their championship teams had a key contributor from LA. Obviously they poached a lot of states, but LA more than others because high school coaches here still love (or at least respect) Saban, and because he realized the pipeline LSU has of in state talent and always worked to stop it.

So what you're saying is you're glad we don't have to compete with Saban for talent because we're not competitive? Hey, guess what? If you can't compete don't expect to have some outside change allow you to be competitive. Make yourself better. The best thing is that he's the GOAT and deserves it while still healthy. He will never be matched, and though I hated every time we matched up and fell short, I wasn't upset that he was better and hoped a piano would fall on him. I hoped we would make ourselves better and unfortunately that wasn't always the case.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. We will still have to compete for in state recruits. McKinley is a prime example. But Saban had his pick most of the time. And when he really wanted a kid from LA, most of the time he got him. The point is, that’s over with. He saw it this year with how Kelly recruited the state so well.

Not me. I remember being surprised how many thought he sucked and we didn't want him.

WHAT? So Saban had his pick of LA talent because he out competed us for the talent but that had nothing to do with us not being competitive? Can't have it both ways. I made the statement that in general we couldn't compete, as others couldn't either - he won 6 natty's after all. I only stated that in a competitive world the path to excellence is to be the best and that doesn't mean eliminated those better but in elevating our performance.

Saban’s poaching of LSU came to damn near a halt the last few years. No reason to think that’s not part of his inability to win a championship the last few years. BK has it on complete lockdown this year and for the 25 and 26 classes.
