The 3rd quarter mass exodus is a myth. Traffic is brutal everywhere.

Look, I get the frustration with the Baton Rouge gridlock. The Mississippi River cuts off our entire west side escape route, and our campus layout doesn't exactly dump right onto an open eight-lane interstate. It's a logistical nightmare.
But bailing on the team in the 3rd quarter to "beat the traffic" is a massive illusion.
I’ve personally been to games at Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Guess what? They all turn into a parking lot.
Tennessee has a river bottleneck blocking half their escape routes.
Beaver Stadium (Penn State) proves that even being surrounded by wide-open rural space doesn't solve the issue; you still have to funnel thousands of cars into specific highway entry points. Memorial Stadium (Clemson) sits in a tight college town geography where thousands of vehicles are forced onto narrow two-lane roads like Perimeter Road and Highway 93 to escape (took us three hours to get to Greenville last year post-game). Notre Dame Stadium faces the exact same constraint, relying heavily on standard local avenues (like State Road 933 and Edison Road) to feed into the toll road, turning South Bend into an absolute crawl.
Ohio State and South Carolina have city infrastructure right next to them, and they still turn into total gridlock. Ever sat in that traffic snarl trying to get to 315 after leaving the Shoe?
When you pack 80,000 to 105,000 people into one concentrated footprint (plus those there just to tailgate), the laws of physics take over. It doesn't matter if you have a major highway artery next to the stadium or not; when 25,000 cars hit the exact same merge point at the exact same second, everything breaks down.
Leaving in the 3rd quarter doesn't actually save you that much time—it just trades your stadium seat for a driver's seat while you stare at brake lights. If you're going to be stuck in traffic anyway, you might as well stay, lose your voice, and support the team.
To those who say, well I can do what I want - you sure can, just giving my opinion. Just don't cite our traffic as the worst in the country because it is NOT.

It’s all game dependent. I’ve been to games left early and been back home relatively quickly. I’ve also had games in which I’ve left early and still had tons of traffic. The more important variable is where you park compared to where you are trying to go.

Fanbase has gone soft. I remember countless times as a kid sitting in traffic for hours leaving games. It’s always been bad. The fans are just pussies now

For real, I almost always find a spot on east chimes st. Pay whatever they ask then walk to the stadium for 15 mins. Traffic has never taken me more than 20 mins to get to the interstate. But I always stay until 0:00.
I love the atmosphere of tiger stadium. But I care about the game of football more than the atmosphere. So I go to watch the game AND enjoy the atmosphere. But because having a 100" TV in my living room and how good broadcast quality is, I rarely go to games anymore because I love to WATCH the game more than experience it.

I really do agree with this.
With that said, if the game is decided by Q3 and those with long walks back to the car.. I can understand not seeing the backups and trying to get home.
If the game is 17 points or less between the teams going into Q4. Then don’t leave. Anything can happen in those games.

The only actual way to beat the traffic is to stay for the whole game and chill out listening to the postgame show for about an hour after. A lot of the really bad stuff clears about by about 90 minutes after the end of the game.

There are certain places to park around LSU that are usually not an issue and there are other places to park that are always issues. If you know where to park and don’t mind walking a little to get to and from your car, traffic isn’t that big of a deal.
That said, leaving or staying is a personal choice. I don’t begrudge anyone for doing either. I’ve left early and I’ve stayed for the whole thing. I’m not leaving when the game is in doubt and sometimes I stay in a blowout because so many people leave early. I’ve also left late third/early fourth quarter when the game was reasonably in hand and it was a day game (UCLA comes to mind when it was hot as shite).
You don’t get a badge for staying for the whole thing. LSU, the coaches and the players get their money either way.

It simply is not that hard to sit on your arse in one spot for three hours to support the program. The excuses are tiresome and lame. If you cannot stay the full game, give your tickets to someone who can.

The real issue is how long people are on campus BEFORE the game. If you get to campus at 9:00 am and tailgate all day long, the last thing most people want to do is stay at the game til 11 pm and then get stuck in traffic. Many fans aren’t even interested in the game in the first place. They’re there for the party and social gathering, not the actual game.

Traffic was horrible in Oxford after the game! Took us over an hour to get away from campus. We parked about 10 minute walk from the grove. It was a nightmare !

I’ve preached this repeatedly on here. Most CFB stadiums were built generations ago. They started small on campuses that hadn’t yet become entire cities. As infrastructure grew around these college towns, it was always impractical to build mass highways to a campus. As these stadiums transformed from 50,000 to 75,000 to 90,000 without added parking to support, bad postgame traffic would be the result. It’s at every major college stadium I’ve been to. The difference is sometimes you can luck out and find a quick exit timed right. I haven’t found that at LSU.

I have been to many LSU games in my life. Both in Baton Rouge and in Atlanta, and I am proud to say I have never left in the third quarter. Ever. The only time I ever even left early was SEC championship game when Georgia was beating us up pretty bad. There were about five minutes left in the fourth quarter, with no chance of us to come back and win it.
I really don’t understand the concept of paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a ticket, waiting all day for the game to start, tailgating, and then getting in the stands and then wanting to leave one or two hours later when the game is barely halfway done. It’s really the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of.

I left after calling Baton Rouge. I was on the interstate 10 mins after I got to my car. I was in Denham when the game ended

It’s because of tailgating. Drinking all day in the hot sun, you eventually start to feel it at 9pm when you’ve been doing it since 9am.

Well said! Most of the people who bitch about LSU post-game traffic have never been to a game at another school. It's largely the same everywhere.

This. I left my seat with 45 seconds left in the game. Walked to my parking spot on Skip Bertman and made it back to St. Francisville in 45 minutes. The contraflow on River Road through downtown was smooth sailing.
