My son was an invited walk-on punter that season. Some incredible characters as well as stud athletes on that team. Except for the Mettenberger/Landry/Beckham teams, Miles had quite a well balanced and potent offense that season. He had fun being around that bunch.

I never felt so sick after a win than that night. Tigers went up 30-10 and had a chance to e-x-p-a-n-d a lead in the 3rd quarter before an untimely fumble. And, as usual for Miles' teams after 2007, the offense went into a shell after the fumble. Then NC looked very much like a team fixing to win the game on the last drive; I know their TE dropped a pass on the last play but I expected a flag for defensive PI which fortunately never came.

It was a Pyrrhic victory at best. I left the stadium feeling like we lost that game.

Most know this already and LSU fans more than most but go google search and you’ll see it’s revered as the greatest college football season of all time.

Pretty cool we came out on top of that storybook season. I was a kid and I fell in love with CFB that year and ever since have always preferred it to the NFL. 2019 was a blast as an LSU fan but as far as the entirety of the sport nothing will top the range and roller coaster of emotions of the 2007 season.

The curse of the #2 seed, nostalgic just thinking of the teams that climbed to the top of the polls and how exciting that season was. South Florida, Kansas, just to name a couple like WTF

The irony is that was just foreshadowing of what was to come in 2010 a month later (vs. Tenn). That game, and the 2002 Kentucky game are the only two occasions where I genuinely felt bad for the opposing players. They did almost everything they could do to pull off a big upset...only to have LSU luck into a win at the end.

hell on one of his drops he damn near lateraled it to a defender for an int.

I think that was the one Trindon Holliday saved by running the guy down and pouncing on him. LaFell had lasik surgery after that season if I’m not mistaken

Didn't they do a documentary on that season? Not a 30 for 30 but maybe a SEC Storied doc?

Then LSU got to go, on the road, and face/beat Nick Saban for the fist time at Alabama. A game with one of the greatest plays LSU fans rarely talk about. The do-or-die 4th down TD to Early Doucet...followed by the Chad Jones sack/fumble that essentially won the game.

This is a game that would have been legendary any other year. In 2007 it was par for the course. I think it might have been my favorite game of the season.

ETA: and the Florida game is still the hardest hitting football game I've ever seen

LSU outscored its first three opponents 136-7! That included a 47-7 beatdown of highly ranked Va Tech.

Lineman Charles Alexander got hurt in the third game, and the defense, while generally still good, was never dominant the rest of the season.

That whole season for College Football was nuts. There is a great video ok YT about the season itself. Kansas was top 2 at one point that season. It was madness!

And Craig Loston got the same guy from MSU again the next season. It was absolutely brutal. I think it was Zach Smith for MSU. He probably still has nightmares about LSU.

Lafell destroys Zach Smith while blocking for Matt Flynn

How many times did the #1 team lose that year? Felt like they were knocked off weekly.

2010 was a fascinating season. That team way over performed to get to 10 wins. Even the two loses were pretty close. The Auburn losss was only by 7. If they somehow win that game lsu could have won the sec and a chance at playing for the national championship.

But you’re right it could have gone way the other way with the Tennessee, UNC Florida crazy wins. But also West Virginia should have been a loss. Get this. Jordan Jefferson went 10 for 22 for 75 yards and 2 INT and still somehow won.

Jefferson was our starting QB and only had 4 TD passes during the entire regular season. Jarrett Lee only had 2 TD passes that year, as well.
Think about that. 6 TD passes between our QBs in 12 games. It's unbelievable that we managed to go 10-2.

This is the most embarrassing stat from the entire season. You're right, it was unbelievable that we went 10-2 that season.

To see Burrow throw that many in the first half of the college football semifinal matchup against Oklahoma just nine seasons later is amazing. Miles has to be the luckiest coach in the history of LSU football.
