I hope he’s turned the corner but it’s surprising that JJ goes with Hurd instead of Money. Money has been decent lately while Hurd pitched great against GA but had some issues in prior weeks. Maybe he’s giving Hurd a test start prior to the regional

I think JJ knows that Hurd at his best can shut down absolutely any team he faces. The problem is, he hasn't been consistent all year at doing this.

Money, at his best, will still give up a good bit to SC.

BFD....2ER, 3H, 1BB , 5innings. How many of our pitchers would you NOT take this from? ESPECIALLY considering his very next run his entire appearance after 1st 2 AB'S guaranteed a loss? Think harder please.

Edit: you going to crucify Skenes for giving up a Homer and 2 ER as well in same game. I know I'm not so I don't know wtf you or anyone else doubting his last performance is crying about but get it together man. Sounding like a kid who lost lunch money

This would be a nice point if they didn't win 9-0 today in Hoover.

3 games, 3 shutouts so far in Hoover. Here’s to Hurd pitching a CGSO tomorrow!

Hurd will get rocked. Skenes needs to pitch and get us through game 1 then Floyd then hurd for semis vs deeper bullpens.

Someone help me understand what Jay may be thinking. For the past four series Hurd has been used as a closer. He’s done well most of the time with one big hiccup.

My question is, if he does well starting this game tomorrow, does that mean we may use him to start a game in the regional? Perhaps a Game 1 against a 4 seed? If so, who do we turn to if LSU has a two run lead in the 8th inning of a regional/super regional game? Because Hurd had been that guy the last four series of the year.
I'm just catching up tonight and my initial thought is something like this:

1) Hurd is coming off a fiery performance, in which, yes he gave up the lead, but didn't give up overall and truly fought to help us to the win last Thursday.
2) I think Jay may be thinking to use this opportunity to see if Hurd can capitalize on that momentum.
3) If Hurd does well, then it opens up Hurd as a starter for the regional. Hurd/Skenes/Floyd. If it happens to get to a championship elimination game, Hurd could possibly come back and throw to a few batters in the 2nd game game. That would be Fri start / Mon possibly available for a few.
4) This also opens up Javen to either start a regional game or have higher availability throughout.
5) If all goes well, then in SR, you can look at Skenes/Floyd and either Coleman/Hurd if gets to game 3.

TLDR: Kick arse Hurd!

No, it will be Floyd/Skenes/hurd and bullpen if we lose after that. Have to secure the first two then work from that since they need to beat you twice at this point. Hurd hasn’t shown any promise as a starter yet. Don’t be surprised if South Carolina gets going early. Great closer but not a stamina guy against top tier talent.

This is a terrible first post Bmantiger.

Saying Hurd will get rocked is shitty in itself, but also no way Skenes was pitching first game in Hoover.

Hopefully he has his closer mentality going

He just seems better in that role for some reason

I think Hurd's issue mirrors the pitching staff's issues in general, between the ears. He is letting the fact that he may have to go more innings cause him to press and is not going through his normal routine. If he can just relax and not worry about if he pitches 2 innings or 6 he will give the team much better inning for the ones he pitches. Just throw your pitches, and strikes unless the situation calls for you to try to fish the batter, and let the chips fall where they may.

Jay is likely setting up for the regional. If Hurd pitches well this week you can start him against the 4 next week. That leaves you with Skenes and Floyd for games 2 and 3, and if you're lucky, Coleman can seamlessly fill in for Hurds bullpen role.

Hurd is more likely to be able to go 5 innings than Coleman or Money, but he is a little higher of a risk for obvious reasons.

Not on HRs they didn't. They really didn't square up very many balls. It was the pitching side that dominated the game for them. 1 extra base hit the whole game..

That's not to say they don't have the ability to put up runs today. They definitely do. But, I definitely think the point is valid that this ain't their tiny little home ballpark in Hoover. Dimensions of Hoover are very similar to ours. If we had their home field, our offensive numbers would very likely look even better.
