Someone help me understand what Jay may be thinking. For the past four series Hurd has been used as a closer. He’s done well most of the time with one big hiccup.

My question is, if he does well starting this game tomorrow, does that mean we may use him to start a game in the regional? Perhaps a Game 1 against a 4 seed? If so, who do we turn to if LSU has a two run lead in the 8th inning of a regional/super regional game? Because Hurd had been that guy the last four series of the year.

Hurd needs to limit walks a ND fill the zone with strikes. Big ball park...pitch down in the zone.

If it’s a super regional, you use him to protect that lead and figure out game 3 if there is one. In a regional, your hope is Hurd wins against a 4, Skenes is Skenes and Floyd/Wholestaff let you advance!

Because he wants Hurd to be that missing 3rd starter. Can not blame him.

Eli Jones gave up one and two runs in the 1 inning appearances he had against us in both games earlier this year.

Skenes is Skenes

Skenes has pitched into the 8th inning only once this season. Even when he dominates, we have had some high leverage spots in the 8th and 9th for our bullpen.

Auburn and UGA both pitched off against Skenes and we didn’t score near enough runs to safely put the game away.

Yes I think if Hurd pitches well tomorrow, then he'll be the third starter in the regionals/super regional. So he may would pitch friday in the regional (only bc you don't generally use an ace against the 4 seed), and sunday in the super regional if it comes to that. He has looked really good late in games, but you absolutely take that chance to start him in the 3rd starter role because it provides a much higher upside if he can give 5 innings of solid pitching. That's more valuable than limiting him to the closer role. It's at least worth a shot and we can move him back to the bullpen if it doesnt work

I hope he’s turned the corner but it’s surprising that JJ goes with Hurd instead of Money. Money has been decent lately while Hurd pitched great against GA but had some issues in prior weeks. Maybe he’s giving Hurd a test start prior to the regional.

You have to skin the cat some way with the tools you have in your belt.

I don't think this necessarily means Hurd would be a starter in regionals or supers, but it's something to re-visit again right now. He has to be a part of this if it's going to be an Omaha run. We just don't have a bunch of tools on the belt. He extended well at Georgia. Give it another sniff. Maybe Jay is using him as an opener. Also something to check out.

I still say Little also has to be a part o this if it's going to be an Omaha run. Too much talent, with so little available arms, to not continue to ask something of him.

I like it. I think the rotation both this week and in the regional could be Hurd/Skenes/Floyd, in that order.

Hurd in the regional opener against the 4 seed, Skenes in the winner’s bracket game, Floyd in the finals.

Then if we have to play on Monday in the regional, Hurd could potentially be available for an inning or two, depending on how many pitches he throws in the opener on Friday.

I thought this would happen, now if only...we can get 5+ innings behind him. Primarily as a confidence builder going into regional play but I suspect with decent run support and fielding we may be about to see a 2 ish ER 1-2 BB 7+K very solid outing. I hope.
