I like Heefner as well. I like Matt Riser, but not yet for something like this. I like Mark Calvi at South Alabama. I like Greg Lovelady at Wright State.

First question: who represents CPM?
Isn't it possible Paul M. could be encouraging this discussion to get his final contract with LSU? There are only a small handful of other programs which could plausibly create leverage for Paul. Texas could be one.
The other observation is that if the Texas interest is real it is fed by the perception of instability of funding of higher ed in Louisiana by all the "bankruptcy" talk.
Once again: Thank Jindal and F. King for that.

Not financially. Texas is ready to throw a blank check for even mediocre coaches.
Of the list of possible coaches Texas has interviewed, which one is mediocre?

I don't think CPM and his temperment could handle trying to rebuild a team right now

He did a pretty good job at rebuilding with the mess Smoke left him.

Why didn't you put Corbin's winning percentage? Is it because it doesn't compare well to Mainieri's?
I'll help you out, both overall and conference record winning percentages are higher for Mainieri than Corbin.

Yeah that was obviously intentional

Texas has a better long term track record than LSU baseball. They've been to nearly double the CWS we have and they've won titles in 3-4 decades the past 50 years.

Corbin already turned us down when we were replacing Smoke anyway.

other than Mainieri being 58, that doesn't make any sense. He built Notre Dame from nothing into a CWS team and then cleaned up the disaster Smoke created and made the CWS in year 2 and won a national title in year 3

Nope....on his wiki page it just does not have it.
LINK
You can see for your self.
What I like about Corbin is (look at the CWS since 2010):
2015 Virginia (44-24) Brian O'Connor 4-2 Vanderbilt Omaha, Neb.
2014 Vanderbilt (51-21) Tim Corbin 3-2 Virginia Omaha, Neb.
2013 * UCLA (49-17) John Savage 8-0 Mississippi State Omaha, Neb.
2012 * Arizona (48-17) Andy Lopez 4-1 South Carolina Omaha, Neb.
2011 * South Carolina (55-14) Ray Tanner 5-2 Florida Omaha, Neb.
2010 South Carolina (54-16) Ray Tanner 2-1 (11 inn.) UCLA Omaha, Neb.
2009 LSU (56-17) Paul Mainieri 11-4 Texas Omaha, Neb
You can see he has to contend with Perennial Powers--South Carolina & Florida Each year and Has held his own.

I try to tell people we don't have the highest paid football staff. Not even close. We had the highest paid oc and DC, yes. Just get tired of all the B's that gets posted on here.
Oh and there aren't that many coaches better than Paul. Could LSU find someone and be successful? Yes, but at some point, fans won't like him either.

So, LSU doesn't have to contend with these teams on a yearly basis as well? Granted due to scheduling and the divisions LSU won't play all of them yearly, but chances are LSU could face them in the SEC Tournament and likely compete for recruits.
That's a pretty weak argument, especially considering the advantages Vandy has that others have pointed out.

That was 9 Years ago----Could be time for a change.
Again CPM is a great coach but if he decides to leave, I would call Corbin first make him tell me NO again.

a lot of morons in a hurry to get rid of the best coach we have on campus.
if they let him walk they will not be able to hire anyone with his resume.

Would love the opportunity to visit with Dallas Baptist coach, TCU coach, or Louisville coach who would crawl here.
