Transfer Portal will eat Texas A&M up next year lol
A&M boosters didn't just give these kids a bag of money
They signed them to multi-year deals that pay out gradually.
If they leave A&M then they'll be leaving money on the table and likely more than anyone else will pay them.
I can't believe this needs to be said but yes- you need top claSses and players to compete. And before the next poster beings up 2019-
That is the exception not the rule. Having someone like Joe Burrow or Cam Newton and you can get away with some lesser olineman.
But if you don't have a generational QB then you better not get your arse whipped in the trenches snd they're skill guys are faster and more athletic than yours

I think the bigger concern for them is gonna be the portal. No team has room for that many 5 stars....some of these players they bought gonna transfer....no doubt
It sounds like y'all are trying to convince yourselves that this is going to fail but this model has worked for Bama, Georgia and Ohio State. Not sure why it would fail at A&M but I sure as hell hope it does.

I see what you mean and there is validity to what you say. The idea that a young player of 18 or 19 is going to go and sit anywhere nowadays is naive. To go out and have boosters pay kids who are only there for money and expect loyalty is ridiculous.
There is absolutely nothing that forces a kid to stick around after he takes money from some booster.
Spencer Rattler drove two vehicles from Norman, Oklahoma to Columbia, South Carolina.
This situation will be common and I doubt too many boosters from any team are going to be happy with throwing money, cars, or whatever away.

Really? Well Bama has a dozen players in the portal right now. UGA has 4 or 5 in the portal and has over 30 eligible for the NFL Draft. Potentially UGA could lose almost 40 players. Coordinators and assistants are leaving as well. UGA is about to have the same situation LSU had after LSU won the NC in 2019.

the 2 and 3 stars are a better way to go.
Delusions are not a winning strategy.

Are any of the those players guys like Dallas Turner, Bryce Young or Will Anderson? All 5*s
Or were they guys that didn't start and bounced. You think Bama got better with the portal? They landed Eli Ricks this year and Henry Toto'o last year. Both all American talents.

They've already proven that they can sustain. Your wishfully hoping somehow Kirby Smart stops having incredible defenses with all his nfl talent. It's illogical.
But yeah you're right. Typically more talent doesn't mean that much in football games....

There’s definitely an aspect to it of taking the job that pays more vs the job that pays well that you’ll enjoy working.
I’m not saying that they won’t have success better players usually means more wins. Eventually you get the kids that went there for the money, but don’t actually want to be in college station. This can cause issues if they don’t leave bc of the “contract”.

I would theorize transfer portal will be the better route for big NIL deals. Proven at collegiate level, life skills, more potential for NFL opportunities. Paying high school kids will work but hard to imagine It won’t create some extra locker room drama amongst players (vets vs freshman).
How long until an NIL is used to shave points etc or influence games? Even something as minor as a QB being asked to favor a WR because they have same sponsor?
I know it’s boosters paying this and they want wins; bottom line there’s much more people involved and people are susceptible to greed and corruption.

LSU will spend their money smartly, as they always have. This is nothing new, the only difference is its in the open now. LSU will be in it for the same 5 stars in the NIL era as they were in the previous era.
I'd even go so far as to say that with how much we've upgraded our ability to evaluate talent, that we will spend even more wisely, along with being able to identify 5 star talent that has gone under the radar.
All in all, I think we are in for some really good times ahead. By the time Kelly starts his third year here, we will be on the verge of championships.

Alabama has the GOAT HC
OSU won with an Elite HC (Meyer) but has for the most part been blown out in the CFP since then.
UGA needed a mulligan & several breaks to go their way to FINALLY knock off Saban & Bama.
A&M has Jimbo Fisher as HC! They’ll need more than 1 good recruiting class to overcome his lack of coaching & inability 2 develop players.

Agreed, Jimbo Fisher sucks donkey testicles

When the NCAA originally came up with NIL, it was specifically stated that a university could not use the NIL money in recruiting.
That rule was gone in the first five minutes.

Recruiting the best players is the reason teams win. There is no reason to think this will blow up in there face and every reason to think they just jumped into bama uga osu stratosphere. We need to step up.

Jefferson, Clyde, Joe and Chase were all grossly underrated!!
Posted on 1/17/22 at 7:31 pm to SOL2
Agreed LSU should focus on recruiting those 2 and 3* players and developing. No egos that those 4 and 5* players have
Posted on 1/17/22 at 10:32 pm to Nix to Twillie
We needed all those 5*s because LSU played the hardest schedule in NCAA history to get to/win a championship.

End of story.
New ball game today. If every team with money gets that to the players, it doesn't matter. Only one team can win it all. The NIL rule will change in 2 years. TAM will never win a championship with players playing for themselves and not for the team. And after listening to some of their signees
not one of them gives a damn about TAM.

It’s going to be even funnier when they still can’t get it done with all this talent. They’ll still find ways to lose to LSU, Bama, and other random west teams like State or Ole Miss.

Jefferson and Clyde were 3 stars.
Chase and Burrow were 4 stars.
York was a 3 star.
Thad Moss 3 star
Not one 5 star on the Oline
I would say a majority of our offense production did well not being a 5 star.
The caveat being if one of the recruits is the best qb to come out in decades, he can cover up those other warts
