I have no idea. He was lazy for the hiring of Jimbo and Kelly, and stupid for the huge, long contracts.

If he was meddling that much in the program, he was an a-hole on top of everything.

Made me remember that was one of the clips of bad PR that partly led to Kelly's downfall, as well as the fact that he wanted to get rid of both Sloan and Davis, but Woody wouldn't let him.

Why is this a fact in your mind?

100% Woodward wouldn't let Kelly fire Davis. That was why Atkins got hired. O-line was historically bad because there were too many cooks in the kitchen.

Really doesn't matter because Nuss got hurt in preseason and Van Buren isn't a playoff QB.

If Nuss stays healthy, LSU is in the playoff instead of OU and Kiffin is at UF.

Kelly wanted to keep Sloan and just fire Davis. Woody wanted Sloan gone.

Not really. Kelly wanted to promote Sloan to OC Who was bringing in Underwood. Didn’t exactly work out did it?

One rumor was that Brad Davis was popular in a portion of the Baton Rouge community and therefore provided a political asset and good optics for future political aspirations that Woodward, a Democrat, might have had.

Another rumor was that Davis was a good mole.

One possibility why BK might have initially wanted to keep Davis was that Davis was good at landing 5-star linemen, and Kelly realized his own weakness as a recruiter- and finding and hiring good recruiters- against SEC recruiting competition.

Rumor was that even before he arrived at LSU Kelly didn't like to recruit and was therefore more dependent on good recruiters being on his staff. He probably initially underestimated the fierce competition in recruiting against other SEC schools, especially for Louisiana prospects. Therefore, he valued that recruiting aspect of Davis over Davis's coaching deficiencies and thought he could get by. Or maybe it was Woodward who felt this way and sided with Davis. Just speculation.

That is what I understand based on what some of the chatter said. Chatter is notoriously suspect, however. Especially here

I'm glad both Sloan and Davis are gone because watching an offense on life support all season is not fun at all.

I never held Sloan in high regard, but the fact that the OC from Oregon got hired as Kentuky's head coach and hired Sloan to be his play caller puts more weight on his skills that I was thinking, for sure.

Now will Davis have a similar next step in coaching? I highly doubt it.

It'll be interesting to see how all of these former coaches and players shake out in the future.

Sounds like Scott Woodward been needed to go, especially if he was meddling that much. frick him, I'm still salty about the Will Wade shite. frick Kelly too, just for good measure. I at least respect Kelly a smidgen more now that I know his bosses were getting in the way of letting him hire/fire the people he wanted working for him. He still mailed it in though for the most part, and lied his arse off in selling how good his teams were. You don't oversell and underperform. You downplay it and overperform your arse off.

If the new AD and President bring back Neck, they'll win over all the Tiger fans in a hurry. At least, a bunch of them

I don't think there is anyone that thinks this wasn't BK's own doing. He made his bed and had to sleep in it and deserved to be fired.

I'm strictly talking about the meeting Woodward had with him after the A&M game where Woody told him to get rid of Sloan and BK said he wanted to also get rid of Brad Davis, and that didn't go over well.

That to me is where things started going south real fast on Sunday. Just seems peculiar that Brad Davis of all people was the hang-up for Woodward. Why not let the coach you're paying $100M get rid of the offensive line coach if he wanted to?

It would at least make more sense if Kelly wanted to also get rid of Baker or someone similar and Woody intervened.

Thought Davis was supposed to be elite. Unfortunately, the results didn't show that and should have been terminated much sooner. This too seems to be a result of MK not being fully engaged.

Sloan’s response, which was something like, “you’re on the headset, too, coach”, was equally comical.

Amazing that Kelly dresses the guy down about the play call, but heard that play call come in and didn’t shoot it down.

Gee. I wonder what you’re implying here? You do know Kelly was a failure that hired these other three failure coaches right? BK is probably the most hated former HC from LSU. But go on.
