Kelly gets paid by agreed upon installments; just like he still works for LSU or they agree to a buyout where he gets more money sooner.

This is not a negative to hire a future coach.

However, the Governor fiasco dating back to Omar the tiger does not play well in Peoria.

Exactly.

It is a variation of a rule that I learned in military - no matter how bad it gets, it could get worse.

No chance....Kelly receives every penny that he is owed. LSU has no leverage here.

So you haven't read the contract, I see

Everyday they show more and more that they did all of this with absolutely no plan in place. I have no confidence in LSU’s administration getting it right going forward.

Scott Woodward didn't exactly prepare for the situation correctly. He thought he could force Kelly to fire more coaches than just Sloan by holding his job over his head and kelly called him on it. And now here we are.

The only difference is it doesn’t get in the public eye and does not find it way in the political arena.

I’d say that’s a pretty big difference.

You are so dramatic. "...as ugly as it gets." This won't be a blip come spring.

LSU owes BK $54 million. Pay the man his money.

Whether LSU pays in installments or offers a lump sum, it’s still honoring the contract, just like choosing between a lottery annuity or a cash payout. The two settlement offers were rejected by Kelly because, after taxes and potential investment growth, they were worth less than receiving the full installments. He hasn’t countered yet, but most likely this will end with a lump sum in the $35–$38M range.

I think that ship has sailed.

I think this ends with all or none

You should read the contract.

That was clearly evident from the jump to anyone who was willing to look past the initial euphoria of BK's firing. No matter what is written, there was no intention to fire BK that Sunday morning. Woodward went in demanding staff changes. BK pushed back saying he's the HC, he would make the staff changes as he saw fit. Egos and tempers flared, and the tone quickly went from "you need to make staff changes" to "we're firing this MFer today!" There was no discussion as to how the buyout was going to be funded, or how a new HC would be funded. The sentiment was "we'll figure that out later."...no question with the cabal of plaintiff's attorneys on the BOS all saying "don't worry about it. We'll force BK to take much less."

Landry, already wanting to push Woodward out because of past issues, seized the opportunity and leaned on his BOS to do so....with no thought as to the fallout...i.e. the need to conduct a coaching search without an AD.

That's because the only "plan" has been to "get Tate out. Get Woodward out. And we'll go get our own poll tested coaches." That list consist of two (maybe 3) coaches. Saban (possibly Kiffin) for football and Wade for basketball. The fact that the likelihood of actually landing any of them was pretty low never crossed their minds. That's because of the level of egos you're dealing with at the top. They believe they can make anything happen simply because of who they are...totally ignorant of the fact that ALL of those coaches hold ALL of the negotiating leverage and they don't NEED LSU. LSU "needs" them.

Once they finally accept Saban and Kiffin aren't coming to LSU, then the real chaos will begin because there won't be a consensus as to the best option. It will be a bunch of egos all shouting for their guy. Not because he will be what is best for LSU. But because they want the "clout" to say THEY were the one who hired the HC.

Nah.

This just part of the leveraging process. No one wants to get into lengthy litigation. A lawsuit creates a pressure point to move informal negotiations off center. I think $40M (MAYBE $45M) is what BK is looking for. That probably puts the settlement range somewhere between $35M and $40M

35-38 with no requirement tied to a new coaching job. Though maybe widen the potential range on the top end to 40 million.

Saw this coming a mile away, when reading TD. Started with you the critical fans that spread negative propaganda that was unrealistic. And it spread to the higher ups

This will never get to Discovery.
Both sides will come to an agreement shrouded in non-disclosure perpetuity. Kelly runs off to an Analyst gig, LSU moves on with a bloody nose and not hemorrhaging cash

Whole lot of wishcasting ill on LSU here when LSU did nothing but hire an AD and give him full trust and authority to hire whoever he wanted.

If Kelly decides to play dirty, he'll just bury his kids careers too.

And let’s be clear for all you Louisiana lawyers.
Kelly filed suit, he’s not afraid of discovery.
Is LSU afraid of discovery?
We will see.

Everyone wanted him fired ASAP. Well, we did it. Now clean up on aisle 9 starts.

Not a Kelly fan or hater. This is just an fing mess.
