He’s not even the GOAT at LSU.
Nothing against him at all, but he’s not a top 5 all time CBB coach. Might not even be top 10.

Damn you figured that out all by yourself?

You can say Rooney. Kendall put it on Twitter
Right. My point was that it would be very unprofessional to mention Rooney’s name if this was just a smokescreen.

DVH hell I meant to type Tim Corbin. Yes he is better than DVH. I was looking for a comparison.. took everything to beat Garrido including an all time great in Big Country.

So you’re telling me Bianco has a chance of being hired away?
Posted on 6/10/24 at 8:43 pm to 3rdPart Tiger
They're still going to suck!

I personally liked CPM. Really like the way he runs a program. I see nothing wrong with bringing in a proven winner to lay down a foundation.

Weird arse hire. Tanner age 66 with 2 national titles hires Manure age 66 with 1 national title.

South Carolina also shite-canned their softball coach.
Will the corresponding move be to hire Yvette Girouard?

South Carolina better like smaller ball players, lol. Just kidding

Who cares at his age, if he signs a 3 year deal at $2.5M per year, then go get that $7.5M to add to your retirement. Keep the BR home and move back to be near family after you get burnt out again.

quote:PM probably has plenty in the tank to get it going for SC. And if he leaves after 4-5 years he program should be in great shape. I am not sure this is the best hire, but hell look at the NC State coach Avent, he is 68 and has his guys in the CWS.

For me, If I am in the Carolinas I absolutely make Godwin tell me no. I dont think he makes more than 500k and he would crush it at SC

I see that Mainieri has already hired the recent Director of Player Development at the Virginia Cavaliers, John Hendry, the son of former Chicago Cubs General Manager also named John Hendry and a long-time family friend of Paul Mainieri.
quote:
He (Hendry) had served as Virginia’s director of player development most recently, helping build the club in various ways. It’s unclear exactly what role he’ll serve with the Gamecocks on Paul Mainieri’s staff, but it’s a quality addition, to be sure.
Hendry had spent the last three years at Virginia, where he helped coach the Cavaliers to three straight appearances in Omaha, including this season.
South Carolina also announced that assistant Monte Lee is being retained and will serve as associate head coach, while pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Terry Rooney will join the program from LSU.

Always liked him and wanted LSU to let him walk out on his own.. we did … kept him around way past his prime.. All good.. it was obvious he was in pain.. lost interest and past prime but we let it play out.. he has tons of money.. could have gone and done something such as charity stuff to help community.. with a bball twist….buuut took our money.. a break and now off to our competitors and chasing more money..
My opinion has changed.. good by.. stay gone.

I'm listening to a SC media guy on AFR talking about expectations. Says baseball is one of the only sports at SC that turns a profit, and they expect more. Says they are a baseball school at heart with women's basketball being the most successful sport now, obviously. Says they are a mid-tier SEC program and that is unacceptable.
Seems to me that some of the things they like about Paul is his building the programs at Air Force and Notre Dame, so he knows how to do that. Had Skip in his ear as his mentor to help him navigate the new era of CBB in the 21st century. Was there--with Rooney--to see how Jay quickly turned around LSU in 3rd decade of the 21st century. And he's got Ray Tanner as a sounding board and confidant.
I think Paul's role is definitely gonna be a CEO type and they are gonna give him a bunch of supporting staff resources. Want to upgrade the facilities toward the top of the SEC--was Paul out in the forefront of that? I think he said the expectation is to get them to Omaha--or be an Omaha-like team--in the next 5 seasons. Then probably pass the program off. He may be a huge bust or he may actually do a good job if he's given the resources to surround himself with the guys who are familiar with the current landscape. Paul can do what he does and leave the rest to them.
Super wild still, but very very interesting. Could work or fail spectacularly. But I kinda get what they're trying to do.
