Midnight release of Titanic for rental at Blockbuster in 1998
Look at the smiles, the excitement, people chatting with each other in line. I bet people who stood in that line have memories of it and can tell you who they were there with, etc.
Now if you want a watch movie things are infinitely more convenient, you don't have to physically drive somewhere, stand in line, you don't have to remember to rewind it and then return it later.
But that convenience comes at the cost of making it cold, sterile, boring, forgettable.

Some movies were better seen in the theater - E.T., Titanic, Avatar

To this day I still haven't watched that movie.
I've seen enough through osmosis to pretty much know it, but I have never sat down and actually watched it. I likelg never will.

I don’t think it deserves the popularity that it enjoys, but it is worth seeing.

Same. I know he's poor. I know the lady lacks any semblance of loyalty, honesty or good character in general. Make the version where they highlight the angle on the federal reserve being created as a result of this "accident" and I'll watch. I don't need the tawdry floozy. I've seen that story many times.

Worked at a cd store in the Slidell mall in the late 90's - we got flooded for the soundtrack release, then again for the vhs/dvd release. We listened to that damned soundtrack for months on a loop until the Britney Spears/NSync/Backstreet Boys/98 degrees flood came then we couldn't escape the pop music. Turned a fun job into agony every Tuesday when screaming teenagers and weird 40 something mom's lined up for when we opened.
Couple of years later while in college I worked at Blockbuster when the ship was sinking. The one and only job I quit and just walked out on without notice. I was an assistant manager of the store and closed up shop, deposited my keys in the drop box with a letter saying I wasn't coming back. Walked away. Last ever retail job - got sick of being yelled at because nothing was ever in stock due to no late fees, then getting yelled at by management for not upselling 5 different things at the register when people were yelling at me for stuff being out of stock.

Boomers on here act like Americans lives are so much better nowadays because they have money in their stock market account
A homeless person in 1998 lived a better life than someone with 10 million dollars in 2026

You could replace "movie" with "sports" and be really close to the same argument. Expanded access to broadcast sports has, IMO, made the fan experience so much more sterile, boring, and forgettable.

Best part of the movie and worth watching just for it.

You don't remember that Snyder guy in the 80's.
There were 3 million homeless under Ronald Reagan.
I Googled motherfrickered it:
"In 2025, about 746,000 people were homeless in the U.S.—a decrease of about 25,800 from the record 771,000 recorded in 2024. Economic struggles and a lack of affordable housing continue to keep the count near historic highs."
Leftists have been making up shite basically forever. That 3 million number basically went unchallenged by the press.

I do miss the old mom and pop music stores. Going to a place like The Compact Disc Store on Jefferson or Paradise by LSU and talking to the clerks about what new , getting suggestions, sampling tracks with folks in the store. Shopping back then for lots of things was enjoyable b/c the mom and pop stores were actually interested in the stuff they were selling.

Ketchup in a glass bottle was a pain in the arse, but tasted so much better.
