He also made some interesting comments prior to season start about LSU ‘Not being there yet’ in regards to resources (aka Money) for baseball and not being fully invested in baseball. I believe in their closed door meetings he will be demanding more and if not, he’ll open the doors to listening to other jobs. Not saying it will be MLB, but Texas A M and some other schools out there will throw a bag. He’s the highest paid coach now. Time will tell.

This board has a weird obsession with thinking revenue share is the same as NIL, etc. Jay was making a point here but it wasn't solely because of revenue share. Maybe there's more to why he's unhappy.

If the Dodgers call,(which wouldn’t happen anytime soon), he will be gone. Bookmark this.

Let’s hope they never call.

When Tony got hired We all should’ve been worried. I know I was. Jay is clearly the better candidate for an MLB team and not Tony.

If the A&M job even opens. Jay has a lot of new things to deal with he lay or may not like, new AD that didnt hire him, new AD office rep to report to, rev share, facilities requests, nil donations, speaker engagements that continue to increase

This is factually incorrect.

This season would want to make me leave too. 3 unearned runs on a missed line drive by a really excellent outfielder. Swinging bunt base it’s, etc.

The other thing he did say was he is a control freak and line-up cards are written by bean counters. He ain’t so hot on that.

We all know about the As thanks to Moneyball.

Here’s another example. There are obviously more, but these took about 30 seconds of searching to come up with.

Whatever managers and front office personnel say in public, it’s pretty clear that analytics-driven front offices have more control than ever over the game today. The days of managers having full control in-game are over and have been for a while.

Get JJ a new or redone stadium and 2-3% more revenue share and better NIL deals. In exchange have him sign a new 10 year contract with higher pay but some absurdly high buyout amount if he leaves ($30M+). A NC in men’s basketball would be epic but is just not realistic. LSU should focus on NC’s in football and baseball, with a healthy basketball program that makes it to March Madness most years.

He just said, without saying it, that he can't imagine coaching in the MLb.

I didn’t read the entire thread, but this is Jay telling the new admins and the boosters he’s got to have more financial commitment for baseball to compete every year at the highest level.

The best way to piss off all the old money people at LSU is to not give him that commitment, and it’s far less of a commitment than the amount WBB loses every year.

Anyone who follows college baseball is following his Tony V is doing.

In other sports, coaches move between college and pro. Baseball was the outlier,

It still is. The other sports don’t have a minor league system anything like baseball’s. There is a development pipeline that the NFL doesn’t have at all. The NBA just has the single G League. There are a lot of pro managers being developed in the pro game and prepared for it in a way the college game doesn’t.

Also, despite changes since early 2000s, college baseball has more differences from the pros than the other sports. The bats and balls are fundamentally different, which is a core part of the game. Some of the rules are also different.

These ensure that hiring college coaches will remain an outlier. That doesn’t mean Jay will never be one of them, but this will never be commonplace.

I love Coach Johnson and would absolutely suck if he left for MLB, however every coach in America would be blowing up Verge’s phone to fill that spot. We would quite literally have our pick

While maybe true, you never know if who you get will get elite results. Jay has surpassed expectations and we're extremely fortunate to have him with how relentless he is recruiting.

Fix the revenue share for baseball. I've been saying this.

Your message would be much more effective without the “I’ve been saying this.” Take your lead from the all-time master of this sort of messaging which was Cato the Elder. He ended most of his speeches with “Carthage must be destroyed.” They did destroy Carthage, and we’re still talking about it today.

If he is so relentless in recruiting and the portal king for baseball as we all say why is he always bitcning for more money?

Highest paid coach? Check

Money to get the best players? Check

What’s the deal then

because he wants the money to stay ahead in the arms facilities race, it’s no secret he wants his indoor field facility like arky and state.

Jay knows what other schools are allocating for baseball recruits, coaches and facilities. He wants LSU to be competitive with the best. By all accounts, he outworks just about anyone around. So I imagine he is very aware of what his competitors have and fair when it comes to asking for what he feels he needs to be competitive in fielding a consistently great team.
