Squeaky clean and connected to the AAU world don’t really go together. I’m hoping that booster is burying his head in the sand. A true squeaky clean is like Trent Johnson and his country day all star team.

At least his wife is a smoke show unlike that arse clown oats and his troll.

Irrelevant now, not a box that needs to be checked anymore. Unless you still want to throw sex parties with hookers for recruits like Pitino - still can't do that....at least I don't think you can? Compliance?

So was Trent Johnson and he couldn’t even fill out the roster without open tryouts for band members

Again. Go look at his recruiting class rankings within his conference. The guy is known to be an elite recruiter

If he's "squeaky clean" you can remove any mystery and speculation about whether or not he can acquire elite talent. SPOILER ALERT: no he can't.

Be careful, honeymoon period, mustn't point out any negatives at all right now. Though its been proven that being clean doesn't correlate to being successful at this level. And even though most wont admit it, nobody on here wants a squeaky clean MBB coach, our former coach is the NCAA's face of corruption in Men's CBB, (Which is straight BS), but none the less conservatively 95% of this fan base, is still pissed he was let go. So as much as I appreciate the OP's insight, he could have left the squeaky clean part out, because everyone knows thats a red flag if true.

Well, Mr. "Squeaky clean" produced Ja Morant, a better player than Will ever produced, and also got past the first round of the NCAA's at Murray State. So he already has acquired elite talent AND proved that he can win without it.

You can see this from his pic and hearing him speak.

McMahon is very close friends with Eric Konkol (La Tech). They were roommates as grad assistants at Tenn. They both agreed whoever became a HC first would hire the other one. That happened in April 2015 when Konkol got the LT job. McMahon was an assistant at Murray. McMahon moved down and settled in. Three weeks later Murray HC Steve Prohm left for the Iowa St job and McMahon was hired as HC at Murray. I expect we will see La Tech on the schedule regularly !

Didn't konkol just get hired away from la tech?

It will be interesting to see who he puts on his staff. Despite what the bozos say on here recruiting is about connections. Does anyone actually, truly, believe Wade was the ONLY coach offering the 5* players he signed (alleged) additional benefits? Give me a break. Yet, he still got them to sign with LSU.

Greg Heiar was very well connected in the Florida basketball recruiting world....enter Darius Days and Emmitt Williams. Bill Armstrong (from Alabama) was the connection that led Trendon Watford to LSU. Armstrong was well connected in the southeast. Wade, from his time at VCU, had strong connections in the mid-Atlantic (Virginia, Maryland, etc) and Northeast. Same with Kevin Nickleberry. That's why you saw LSU sign guys from that area: Efton - Richmond, VA. ; Cam Thomas - Chesapeake, VA., Naz Reid - New Jersey; Brandon Murray - Baltimore. Justice Williams - Philly; Aundre Hyatt - NY; Marlon Taylor - NY, etc.

Aside from that, Wade was very good at finding guys with connections that could lead them to LSU. Fudge. Lived in Jacksonville, FL, but has family in Lafayette. Mwani Wilkinson. Grew up in Las Vegas, but his father's family is from Baton Rouge.

I'm sure McMahon has strong connections throughout the SE. Can he put guys on his staff that can get top talent from other places. Basketball is not football. It is hard to win at the power conf. level by just recruiting your geographic base. You have to get guys from all over.

The biggest draw for the best talent is WINNING. The NBA is a much bigger draw than $10k for a girlfriend's car.

Dude we have NIL. We can pay them now

Nil is not going to stop a booster or other interested person from paying money under the table.

Let’s say a kid is interested in LSU, Tennessee, and Tamu. All things being equal, what will tilt the scales in a schools favor?
Money under the table.

It isn’t going away.
