So one of my best friends is a big booster and actively involved with Murray, has been for 15 years, flies with the team to road games, has coaches and the team over for events at their home…so here’s some good insight.

* Murray offered him the largest deal in Murray history by far to stay, and it wasn’t enough to keep him…probably $2.5-$3 to LSU
* He and his wife are grade “A”, exceptional people
* He is squeaky clean
* The best X’s and O’s coach Murray has had, not close
* The best developer of talent Murray has ever had
* His individual drills for players are legendary…works their asses off to drill fundamentals
* “I swear, we score off of every inbounds play after timeouts”
* He is big on culture, and they (fans) make fun of how man times he uses the term but it is a foundation of his team and every player buys in
* Very well tied into AAU and his natural recruiting base is the SE…only concern is “can he recruit to get the top talent at an SEC level”

I’m expecting a complete rebuild.

I don’t know what the culture was like with Wade, but I can imagine they have very different styles. We’ll see.

I love what I’m seeing as far as his x’s and o’s and the way his offenses run with a lot of off ball movement. You don’t see any stagnant offense. Everybody’s moving without the ball. Cutting, screens, ball movement, squared up & balanced jumpshots. The players only put the ball on the floor and dribble if necessary to make an open pass. Point guard centric.
It’s a beautiful thing.

Wade was a dramatic improvement in that over the two coaches prior to him. This guy might be an improvement over wade’s offense.

I've come around on the hire but we are the league leaders in Scoring the past 4 years combined so if he is an improvement then that would be a huge deal

This is my one concern. I hope he proves us all wrong on the recruiting end. We still have to be dirty but can't get caught doing it. It is hard to consistently win when you are in a league littered with teams that have high end 4 or 5 star talent.

I don't think you can win here with 3 stars. I know Ja Morant was unranked probably but that is more the exception. Bama, UK, Arky, and UT are loaded in the 2022 class. It will be hard to keep up with that if he can't recruit to a similar sort of level

McMahon is very close friends with Eric Konkol (La Tech). They were roommates as grad assistants at Tenn. They both agreed whoever became a HC first would hire the other one. That happened in April 2015 when Konkol got the LT job. McMahon was an assistant at Murray. McMahon moved down and settled in. Three weeks later Murray HC Steve Prohm left for the Iowa St job and McMahon was hired as HC at Murray. I expect we will see La Tech on the schedule regularly !

Konkol just got hired at Tulsa. La Tech is doing a search now.

I highly doubt Wade was paying those players completely out of his own pocket. But I guess it’s possible.

I think early on he definitely was. I think he wised up maybe during the 2020 class with Cam Thomas. Who knows but I fully believe it was his own money for the first half of his LSU career
