LSU isnt their child. LSUs also a member. LSU has the fundamental right to challenge or disagree without punitive retaliation. So, if the take is "lsu pissed us all off"... then the protect college sports act is dead.

You can't give associations that kind of anti trust exemption that want to punish members for pissing them off. 100s of years because donde plowman was having a bad week.

Wasnt LSU in contact with the SEC for letting wright practice? and i would assume they clearly said that is fine? thats not wrong to let people practice with the team. Didn't saban let past guys do that?

also i thought this was about "pro" players being on the team?
then it was because LSU brought the Law suits agaisnt the SEC?

TLDR version: The SEC can do whatever they want here. It would be a bad look, but they can.

I saw someone post the SEC bylaws yesterday so I looked them up myself.

The SEC has unilateral and unrestricted power to punish its members for any reason. They don’t need proof, or reason or equity apparently. Seems crazy, but that was obviously put in play when the NCAA had teeth and the SEC would just follow their orders.

I said yesterday that all of this was a power grab by the SEC. They want to be able to enforce their own rules and become the law of the land in the SEC. I don’t like that because THE CURRENT leadership has already shown they cannot handle that responsibility. Several times in just the last year they have sat on their hands while their members tested, or outright broke, their rules.

The Bediako situation, Ole Miss blatantly tampering with a Clemson player, Ole Miss getting an injunction to play Chambliss, the signing of G League players through the summer, Josh Heupel’s comments at media day, the recruitment of players who chose to become affiliated with the NFL and then the signing of players who went through the draft and NFL camps. These are just the big button that we all know about. There are probably hundreds of other, much smaller issues that went unnoticed and unpunished.

You had the opportunity to put your foot down on every single one of those big button issues though. We know the happened, but not only did you choose not to, you never even investigated or threatened them with any punishments.

Now though, now you want to act like you’re the big dog and can do what you want? No, it’s too late for that. You’ve already shown you can’t handle the responsibility. Furthermore, you’ve got members of the schools that are one LSU’s schedule this season actively pushing for punishments. Take a step back, think objectively and tell me that the optics on that are not terrible.

If the SEC wants to make a serious push to be the sole governing body, they need to make some changes to ensure that rules are equitably enforced. The 3 that have to happen IMO.

1. Hire a commissioner that has not shown a personal bias. Sankey cannot stay at this point.

2. Build a compliance department that is not affiliated with any of the members

3. Create an enforcement arm to vote on, and carry out, your proposed punishments. Personally, I think a panel of 5 that have no current ties to members is the way to go
