Eh. They can expel a member for any reason, but they can not punish LSU, in this instance, for any reason without risking major, major liability on themselves. They have to have proof of some wrong doing or it would get nasty.

This would be a patent violation of a standing court order.
The only rational way they can end this without more blowback on the SEC is either no penalty or some form of "probation."
