Lack of institutional control you say? Wouldn't that be on Sankey? LSU wanting Pro Players, Texas signing a pro player, Alabama PLAYING a pro player...you tell me who doesn't have institutional control.

We understand that brotha. What you aren’t getting here and what the OP is asking is why is the SEC/Sankey still trying to sue and expel LSU from the conference even after Lane explicitly said that he was not playing those so called “pro” players and even decided not to roster them?
They are not joining the team. Ever. So why are they still fighting LSU over this?

Because a Louisiana court neutered the SEC's ability to go after LSU for playing the group of players (if it did).
The SEC, trying to claw back power, is pivoting and saying LSU and LSU's leadership is irreparably damaging the SEC brand and they want the power to expel/impose penalties.

It is just all about some people‘s personal feelings getting hurt! What’s going on right now is absolutely ridiculous! LSU has not broken any rules! If they decide to punish LSU for any reason, both the NCAA and SEC will be in some real trouble! I think they absolutely know this!

We're not Notre Dame.
I know it's difficult for some people to acknowledge that, especially here, but we're not remotely the same in overall perception.
Notre Dame is up there with the Yankees, in terms of universal recognition. Probably above the Cowboys and Lakers. Definitely above Duke in basketball.
That's why every other college, including Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State etc is in a conference, and TV deals are negotiated by that conference; and Notre Dame has a deal with NBC (an over the air network) for decades. They are alone atop college football in that regard.
That may all change, but not the way you'd hope... LSU would not elevate to the level of Notre Dame. They may decline to the level of mortal programs and eventually have to make concessions and join a conference.
I say this, to say "don't be delusional" with all this. We're a big player on the CFB stage, it's 99.9% likely the SEC won't expel us, and the ACC or Big 12 almost certainly would be interested after a cooldown period if they did. It's even possible the Big 10 might use us to leverage into SEC territory, academics aside. It would be a big score on their part purely from a business angle; and it's a big business now.
But we're not a national brand to the point where we could command remotely what Notre Dame's getting. Nobody is.

Nutshell- SEC wants to punish LSU for questioning the rules but not breaking them.
P.s. players that got screwed originally are still screwed and will sue LSU, who will in turn, sue sec for forcing them to break a court ordered injunction
