He’s a Frank Wilson guy. Hasn’t improved physically since high school. Would think he would’ve put on some muscle mass and learned to be more physical going into his second season but he didn’t.

Berry could make some highlight plays, but he really doesn't project as the guy who can consistently run inside with power and get you a positive gain every down. Neither does Durham. This offense seems to be built on getting to 2nd and 6, 3rd and 2.
Berry could get you a 1st down if he gets free in space, or he can get you 2nd and 11 if there's any contact. And that negative play screws up the entire playcalling setup for the drive, so they prefer to not take the chance.
Going back to the Clemson game (which I think is the better indication of what Kiffin wants), it looks like everything is designed to be the more consistent, repeatable, higher percentage play as it pertains to the running game. Jones ran plays that would get him 4 yds, and he'd get 4-5 yds. 23 carries for 113. That keeps the sticks moving, piles up the offensive plays, wears down the defense. Berry is not that guy.

We couldn’t run the ball last year. Durham and Berry and buried on the depth chart. A coincidence? The OL and running scheme was part of the problem but not all the problem.

His blocking, vision, patience, and reading of correct lanes to run through are bad. Same for Durham. Basically every single thing you need to be a good back besides RUNNING, they aren't at a high level. There have been many times that Berry/Durham have ran straight into an OL back when there was a lane to run through 2 steps to their right/left. Blame this on the coaching they received up to this year. Cough cough Frank Wilson. It's a shame but i give Lane credit for recognizing it so early in the process and getting Jones and Gage over to LSU. That guy impresses me with his attention to detail

My biggest shock is how Durham has seemingly regressed so much over two years. Then Berry seemingly doing the same thing over the last year.

He missed 2 holes in the Clemson game in the middle of the line. He bounced outside. Hanny discussed it and apparently he doesn’t like contact.

Yea we should def just say a guys career is over if he isn't a stud by game 2 of his 2nd year. No way guys can develop under the best offensive coaches in the country.

Our fans are just used to the RB by committee model and specialized roles for the backs. With the pace, the size of the playbook and the limited substitutions Lane wants at the position Berry just isn’t the primary. Outside of the outlier season Kiffin wants a feature back who touches the ball over 300 times so you’re not going to get the 115-85-75 carry splits from the backs we’ve been seeing in recent years. Right now Gage is the better blocker so Berry and Durham are stuck not playing much. Doesn’t mean they’re not effective with the ball in their hands all of the sudden.

He is doing his very best. He has great character and he’s a true Tiger. The competition he competed against in high school was not at the highest level and he’s having to make some adjustments as well as try to get stronger. My only hope is that Frank Wilson doesn’t bring him over to Ole Miss next year with false hope.
