I haven't seen it posted here yet but Tyrann Mathieu had a pretty wild tweet last night, something to the effect of "I know who is bad-mouthing lsu players recently, and he always had his favorites."

Mathieu said in his replies to other tweets at him that he was talking about Todd McShay

Yeah and Key was a very late commit that O basically pulled out of no where.

I figured They would be super tight.

Key went through some shite before his last year. Idk sounds like sour grapes. White didn’t have an issue.

Key ran 4.85 at 238lbs & still went in the 3rd ?

Otherwise at worst he’s a top 50 pick.

Yeah, ok.

quote:

LSU edge rusher Arden Key said that he was "star-struck" when he shook the hand of San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch.

"He was calm in the meeting room, trying to get to know me, very dialed in and looking at me in the eye the whole time," Key said. The 6-foot-5, 238-pounder called the San Fran duo of Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan "impressive." How NFL teams are viewing Key, however, is less certain. The edge rusher said that when speaking at the combine, squads were "blown away" by his explanation for a leave of absence which he took from LSU last spring. That can be read for better or worse. Definitely for worse, Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline has been hearing that Key "left a bad taste" with his interviews and that he's been sliding down draft boards.

quote:

Draft insider Tony Pauline reports LSU edge rusher Arden Key "left a bad taste" in the mouths of teams at the NFL Combine.

Pauline says Key continues to "drop down draft boards" after not participating in the 40 or bench press.

LINK

quote:

Team sources think Key has high first-round talent and that he could be a devastating pass-rusher in the NFL. In a survey of league sources, Key was considered to be among the elite talents of this draft class. However, teams have major off-the-field concerns with Key and think they could cause him to slide in the 2018 NFL Draft. Key's off-the-field issues are similiar to Randy Gregory or Tim Williams.

Sources Tell Us

"You come back to the old question of what will a player do with more time and more money as a pro? Key's background tells you it could be a big problem for him.

Key was in rehab for cocaine abuse for well over a year, including his entire junior season. My source was in rehab for alcohol abuse at the same institution at the same period of time.

But I can see O being a coach that will throw a player under the bus even if he played hard if O thinks that player slighted him in anyway.

I see Les Miles as a coach that would stand up for a player no matter what.

Let's assume this were true for a moment

You do realize that for the player who is legit, the former is FAR better than the latter, right?

NFL people aren't complete idiots. If they ask a college coach if there are any red flags and the coach blows smoke up their arse, it's not like they're going to forget he was full of shite the next time around.

Meanwhile, the coach who doesn't lie for players will be taken seriously when he up-sells a guy who the scouts are luke warm on.

Always wondered what the leave of absence was about. Figured rehab but would not have guessed cocaine. It's actually pretty amazing Key was a 3rd round pick. Can't imagine giving a player millions of dollars who is less than a year clean with a serious cocaine addiction.

not all too shocking. There was a period of time when I was in college that I feel like cocaine was more readily available than weed was. Kids these days seem to be more into MDMA, but it shouldn't really shock anyone that a college kid may have a cocaine problem, although for an athlete, I may be more inclined to lean towards opiates being a bigger issue.

No one made Arden Key leave school for 6 months, come back fat and out of shape, take half the season to get close to back in shape, then bail again at the end of the season with a minor injury, and then show up to the combine 4 months later and have a terrible performance. I couldn't give less of a damn what Key has to say about anything. Him not being a 1st round pick was 100% on him. He had no problem getting that 1st round projection with Orgeron coaching him the majority of his 2016 season.

Blame someone else for his own issue.

I'm LSU first and foremost. When players do selfish bullshite that hurts our teams, I lose a LOT of respect for those players. He's one of them.

And I can find several articles talking about his athleticism hurting his stock

Fact of the matter is, if you’re a freak & an a-hole no one cares.

If you’re an a-hole & run 4.85 no one is going to pick you high
