and TJ has been the coach for 3 years. In college basketball, that's a lifetime. You don't need 4-5 years to put a good team on the court. You have to recruit players that are good enough to play in the SEC. In year 3, we have maybe 3 guys good enough to play in the SEC???

This is completely Trent's fault. He brings no energy to the program. He brings no excitement. And, he makes Brady look like the best recruiter in NCAA BB history.

I've said this since before we hired Trent. We don't need a good coach. We need a program builder. We need a Gerry DiNardo for basketball. Someone that will travel the state and get everyone excited about basketball again. And, someone who can lock up the instate talent.

Anyone else will fail.

This is the year.

If he hasn't made substantial progress, then he needs to go.

We did the right thing by firing Brady's arse and with Trent's credentials, he was a good hire.

But if this season is bad, Trent's body of work after four years will not justify keeping him.

I agree. I think 7-8 wins in conference will be enough to keep his job. We have been a joke the last two years but from what I've seen out of Hicky and JOB III, we have some talent that can play in this league. I'm hopeful they gel as the season goes and we see some real improvement.

Yesterday was dissapointing but we would have been beat by 20 last year and never had a 10 point league against Northwestern.

agreed...I have been following LSU for decades and do not remember a time when our basketball program was less relevant...

I agree. the sad thing is LSU has talent on the team. I believe it's all on the coaching.

Agree. If the basketball team could lock down La like football, that would be the start of something special.

The talent looks alot better but the offense just stands around with no movement. That is coaching and I think Trent needs to go.

The bball talent in state has been down for a few years. This years senior class is first good class on about 4 years.

And I may he crazy....but having #1 team in country in football coming down the stretch may have something to do why the casual fan hasn't paid much attention yet. If the football team struggled you would pay more attention.

I'm getting pretty down on the guy myself. It is already mentioned a few times in this thread, but I don't even give a shite if we are playing basketball games anymore.

I wonder if Pokey would come back from her hiatus in Russia to coach.

Alot that I agree with in here, but two points that I'm not sure about...

1. Scheduling. We don't have a game against #1 Arizona like some years past, but we still play some quality OOC games. We're gonna get VCU or Ga Tech, Houston, Marquette and Virginia. Also, keep in mind that those years we played Arizona we had some veteran presence. It made a little more sense.

2. Players not playing for Trent. After watching 2 of the 3 games so far, I think these guys have been playing very hard. If anything, you can make the argument after yesterday that Trent sold the guys short. We have some young talent, we have high character guys, we just may not have the right guy leading the ship.

Still early, so I'm trying to balance optimism with realism.

For those who have watched this team play this year, they are much improved. The talent level during the past 2 years has ben horrible due to poor recruiting left behind by Brady. Having Ludwig start in SEC play is just sad. Now we have talent on campus but they are young and fresh. I barely recognize the players on the floor and they need some time to gel together. This team will drastically improve over the year and be competitive in the SEC. Also, Trent is playing a much tougher OOC schedule than Brady ever played. I remember when we were dying for a marquee matchup before SEC play.

I'm not saying this isnt a due or die season for Trent cause it is but I think yall should give this team a few more games before making judgement. They are young but very talented.
I think Trent finishes the year with 15-17 wins and SEC play will determine if he stays.

That is a completely untrue statement.

Didn't Brady leave him a Final 4 team? Shouldn't that have a) given Trent a free year and b) given him a hell of a start in recruiting?

I say that if they lose to Rutgers then he should go.

does that mean you were ok with losing to NW, while John Shurna had a career night?

NW is middle of the pack Big Ten, at best. One great player.

Why Rutgers?

What about an assessment of the offense, rebounding, hustle, and intensity on defense?
