Kyren has drop issues but he does a lot of the other things a WR needs to do really well. That is what is keeping him playing. He runs nice routes and understands the offense and what he needs to do. He also hustles and he is probably the best blocker at the WR position downfield
Yeah, Carter Bryant did a Missouri film breakdown and focused on some of the little things that Lacy does really, really well. He’s super physical and is the best WR blocker not just downfield like you mentioned, but around the line in the running game. He has helped spring a ton of big plays.
And he does have problems with drops, no denying that. But he catches just enough that they have to respect him. And since he runs such good routes and gets open, with the route combos Denbrock is dialing up, just Lacy’s presence helps get Malik and BTJ in man-to-man where Jayden hits them for long plays down the field.
None of those freshmen are so much more dynamic than Lacy to make up for what he does. In this particular offense at this particular time of their development. I’m not saying they won’t all go on to have better LSU careers than Lacy, but what he does right now is better for the 2023 offense than what they’re currently capable of.
That said, I would really love to see all of them get some garbage time reps. If only our defense was good enough to create garbage time reps. And maybe a handful of meaningful reps for plays designed to take advantage of their skill sets. But when our offense is this historically great and we’re really only throwing to Malik, BTJ, and Taylor now that he’s back healthy, with maybe a few targets a game to Lacy/Hilton, I don’t think it makes much sense to have the young guys out there for multiple snaps in a close game.

All this chart tracks is whether they played in a game or not.
It doesn't track snap count.

Kylin Jackson must not be as ready as I thought. I thought he'd get PT in this secondary.
He’s been injured and is now adjusting to college. BK said we may see him play at some point

True, but a majority of that list has had significant snaps. I think that’s the point in reference to the delusion that Kelly doesn’t play freshmen.

Most of the DBs playing are purely special teams. Let’s not act like they are getting significant playing time on defense.

Yaites played 20 snaps vs Missouri on defense
Stamps played 33 last week vs OM

Ignore someone trying so hard.

And he should have fricking started and played the entire game in the Ole Miss abomination. He might have made the difference on a couple plays that enabled a defensive stop and a win.

For our offense to keep humming next year, Nuss is going to need to emulate Burrow's early summer of 10,000 catches . . .

A lot of those guys will only play 4 games total so I’m sure Kelly is waiting until the army game to play them the fourth time so they can redshirt . Jackson and holly will see time in one of our non conference games as well.
shite I’m ready for a sure win type game. We need one of those for our defense to get some confidence and especially for the young guys. The young Receivers need reps especially

Would be interesting to see the rest of the SEC freshman in same format.

Not to mention if BTJ leaves after this season we're really going into next year with nothing but inexperienced guys
This year's draft is very WR heavy and BTJ may do better by himself coming back.

No, he’s just like that. Must be a fun guy to hangout with.
Thanks for all the posts here and on the RB, one stop shop for info.

Hilton, AA, and Shelton will have to be the guys to step up - so they really, really need to see some field time the rest of this year.
No they don’t. What data supports that statement? Justin Jefferson recorded zero catches his freshman year at LSU. The next year he led the team with 54 receptions and over 800 yards. Jarvis Landry had 4 receptions for 43 yards his freshman year. He hardly played offense at all. The next year he was dominant. There are many more such examples.
Our freshmen are practicing. That’s all they need to get better. They don’t need to be in a single game.
