Settle an argument for me: Was this hit on Joey B in the Fiesta Bowl a blindside block?

Yes by today's rule.
The rule was not put into effect until 2019.

That's the romantic version imo. I think the legend of JB actually started in the 7 OT game against A&M in '18.

Yes. But the ultimate outcome was worth it.

Under the rules at the time that was a blindside block based on the old 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock rule based on the body position of the person being blocked. I don't remember what year but I believe it was 3 or 4 years ago the 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock rule was revised to be based on the position of the eyes of the person being blocked.
The flag on the play should have been on the block but was instead an un-sportsmanship call on another play that stood over Burrow and taunted him.
Edited to add: it was an illegal block under the old rule and an even more illegal block under the revision.

Yes it was a legal block. At least he did not try to target his head or go low and tear his knees up. Could have been much worse...Just a good slobber knocker..

What i disliked about that play... more than the cheap hit and more than the taunting... was the fact that our reciever(drawing a blank on who it was) just looked at Burrow and headed to the sideline.

In the same season the hit on Burrow was ruled legal, while Devin White’s a personal foul that warranted him being kicked out of the game.

this is how people see it, but I believe the turning point was after they got shut out against Bama. He had had enough of not being the best and his true ascension began from that point

Blindside crackback block. Also targeting, with launching and forcible contact to the head and neck area.
For me, the legend of Joe Burrow started in the pre-game Miami scuffle his first season. Was in the seats early because I had my young daughters with me and we wanted out of the parking lot heat, so we were there when the teams came on to stretch and the nonsense started with Willis that led to the big pushing match. And our brand new transfer starting QB was right in the middle giving the entire Miami team that cold stare. Told my daughters right then "We got us a QB!!" That's when it started for me.

Same here man. I have text exchanges with my brother telling him that Joe Burrow was the next Tom Brady after I saw him merely run out of the tunnel for that Miami game.

Blindside, dirty, cheap.....would fall under any of these and I thank the kid that did it for pissing of Burrow.
