Serious Non-hating Question: where do yall rank Wade from a purely X’s and O’s standpoint?

Not trying to criticize or needle at all. Just curious what the prevailing opinion is of his coaching chops. Exclude recruiting from this question entirely.

Where do you rank him:

1) in the SEC

2) among power 5 coaches

3) in the country

Offensively, top 20 in the country. Defensively, below average

Nothing wrong with his Xs and Os, Wade just needs to understand that even in the modern game you need size because you’re going to come up against it sooner or later.

I’m entitled to my opinion as much as you are. But this is purely a question and I’m not arguing or criticizing anybody. I’m just curious to get a sense of the fanbase. I am admittedly lower than most, but that is not the point of this thread at all.

Look at his track record. The best we did was when someone else coached his players.

I thought his defensive game plan tonight for the big man was pretty good. Thought Michigan’s open three point looks came from either scramble situations or guys just having a mental lapse. To their credit, they made us pay.

What players on the 2019 team we’re recruited by JJ?

ETA. I’ll help you out, 1 player that played any meaningful minutes was a JJ holdover.

We collapsed too much on Dickinson. I agree with double teaming him, but at times we had 3 or even 4 bodies around him. I think that’s probably more ofour players doing too much than anything Wade had planned, though

Offensively, I know we have the players to do it, but sometimes it seems like Wade is telling players to just go out and shoot. Even after timeouts, it seems like we never have a play drawn up

He wants big guys. We just missed on them

B. He is still learning. He is the youngest coach in the SEC and he will only improve. Next year is a big year for him. Seems like it’s going to be a retooling year.

Truly will be a retooling year judging by the roster and the youth as it sits now. Unless we grab some top transfers to supplement our youth.

I think we make the tourney next year but the following season we will make some big noise.

ONE that played meaningful minutes, Skylar Mays.

Marshall Graves was the other.

Yeah I will say that one place I think WW gets underrated is the switching defense. People often think that switching is just a “lazy”/“easy” defense, while in reality it is pretty difficult to do well. And typically our rotations and recoveries are pretty good in that regard.

The one thing I think I would change is to dial back the defensive aggression just a bit. I understand that we’re trying to generate turnovers to get into our transition offense, but I often feel as though some of our traps are overly aggressive and get out of position and wind up giving up easy buckets. I would probably dial back the aggression like 20%, and trade two or three steals per game for 5 or 6 more well-contested shots.

Offensively, he's among the best and the numbers back that up.

Defensively, I feel like he leans too heavy on the metrics at times. Tonight was a good example, guys that typically don't score much were going off and Wade appeared to refuse to adjust the D. He was betting that the seasonal avg would balance things out and it never happened.

He has a lot to learn still. But I would say he is middle-of-the-road there. He's super-young though. Still, he had a good plan vs. their big man. I think he put a little too much focus on him because they burned us from 3 a few too many times due to all the focus on the big guy.

Tennessee was thought to have a top 10 team this year. You saw what happened to them in the 1st game of the tourney against a 12-seed. Kentucky, where were they in the tourney with Calipari's great recruiting?
