Sankey and the SEC team have gotten absolutely railed so far.
They can’t actually answer any of the questions about how or why their rules are enforced so unevenly, because they would have to lie under oath.
They couldn’t answer “what is a professional” or “what is an amateur”, because if they did it would open the door to “every player being paid to play in college is a professional”.
It’s been embarrassing for them and a federal hearing against LSU would go the same exact way.

This is so ridiculous. The players sued for eligibility like many others have. Multiple teams recruited the 5 for 5 guys.

Nowhere was there ever a distinction drawn between minicamp participants and training camp participants until last week when news broke that Wright and Pyburn were considered returning to LSU if they won their court cases.
As soon as that news came out there was a big rush to draw an arbitrary line and say “those are pros” and minicamp guys are not.
It’s already a horseshite distinction. But the really egregious bald faced lie is Sankey and other SEC presidents/AGs trying to gaslight everyone into believing that has always been considered a crucial distinction between pro and amateur, as opposed to one they came up with last week to carveout an avenue to go after just Lane and LSU.

Fair question that I've asked a few times on social media. You either get one of two reactions:
1: "Exactly!"
2: "Those players never played in the NFL! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" (The majority of those comments come from Texas, Clemson and Ole Miss fans.)

SEC's federal lawsuit said. "Among the most fundamental of those rules are the longstanding provisions that prohibit individuals who have entered a professional draft, signed professional contracts, or been rostered on a professional athletics team from returning to compete in college athletics (the "Professionalism Rules").
