I love the "vs ranked teams" argument.

The only current ranked teams they played are Oregon and Oregon St.

Oregon fans will use the ranked teams argument, which has Colorado counted. The best team they beat was Oregon St after their coach told them he was leaving.

LSU is 1-3 vs ranked teams that are all still currently ranked in the Top 11.

Didn’t realize the offense failed us in all those losses. Maybe we should have put Jayden at MLB aside Perkins

why do people care so much about what some sportswriter say? It's just one guy.

Besides, we all know there's regional bias in the Heisman voting. Has been like that forever, and that's why they have equal numbers of voters in each region.

Just let it all play out. I think Daniels deserves it, but if he doesn't win, so what? Nothing will take away the incredible career here and he'll sign a huge contract in a few months.

Good luck next year in Vegas against the evil empire of Troy. I don’t think you SEC fans are aware of how much the rest of the PAC have SC over the years.

This board needs more nice people like you

Winning matters — and that’s all Penix has done. He’s 4-0 against ranked CFP teams this year. Daniels is 1-3.

Except that Daniels out-performed Penix *in those 4 games*. Heck, even looking at the entire *team*, LSU outscored Washington *in those four games* (150 to 145). Highlighting those 4 games is perhaps the best case to be made for Daniels!

Arizona is currently ranked 14. Somehow in that game, Penix managed to go 30/40 for 360 with 0 touchdowns.

Oh, I’m not taking anything personally, who wins the Heisman is something totally unrelated to me. I posted the article for discussion purposes, I think it’s interesting from a psychological standpoint how people approach things like who should win the Heisman (team vs. individual), or who should be in the playoffs (earned vs. best).

I’ve got no personal stake in the Heisman or what some columnist in Seattle thinks. It is simply interesting to me as an LSU fan who thinks Daniels is the clear-cut Heisman winner, to read the reasoning of someone who not only feels his guy is more deserving, but who goes to discounting Daniels’ accomplishments.

It’s a psychological exercise into how 2 groups can see the same thing yet have polar opposite opinions - and the idea of flipping the script. If I were a UW fan would I be taking the position of the Times writer, because Penix is on my favorite team, or would I still think Daniels is more deserving? I don’t know for sure, but I think I may be supporting the other argument. Interesting.

I appreciate yr input on that

I'd read that (puff) piece the day it came out and thought "What a dumb-bunny biased homeboy" -- But would a Seattle writer vote for anyone but the hometown candidate (Penix)?

I wasn't apalled by his twisted logic--as you noted some convenient exclusions like JD5's 1100+ rush yards--as it's not atypical for regional writers to vote in/hype up their regional candidate even when another candidate far surpasses theirs

His attempt at logic and transparency wasn't just a feel-good piece so his house wouldn't get napalmed by Husky fans but an interesting confession of how sports writers make decisions on who to vote for--and many of them tend to pick the best player on the best team

Arguably Ndom Suh and Christian McCaffery (who each won AP CFB Player of the Year) should have taken Heismans over Bama RBs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry--who had essentially NFL OL at Bama blow holes for them // so that "best player on best team" continues 2 be the sports journo mantra

Good thing this year that won't matter a lick!

In his defense, he’s one of Probly 20 people in Seattle that know there’s a college football team in town.

The fact that he focuses on Daniel’s is promising that he is indeed the front runner. Lol

Penix won’t even be the best QB on the field in the Sugar Bowl.

Texas will destroy Washington. Not. Even. close.

agreed.

UW has been flirting with disaster many games this season, winning close ones while giving up a lot of points.

But Texas will bring a whole other level of athleticism to that game.

Texas will roll.

Most people fail to remember that JD5 made the play at the end of the Ole Miss game to win it. #17 dropped it in the end zone.

JD5 scrambled, made the throw and it went through 17’s hands. It was a contested catch, but one that Nabors would have made. As bad as the defense played, and the offense had some slips in the 4th quarter, LSU still should have won that game

They are going to get steamrolled by TX. Their D is almost as bad as ours.

I mean it's not like we wouldn't be doing the same thing if the roles were reversed.

Local media and fans will always devise arguments that prop up the teams/players they cover and cheer for

Yeah. The guy even makes some good points, but he puts some stupid crap in there too saying how "Daniels lost" when a team wins or loses, not the player. And I don't give a shite how good they say the Pac-12 was this year, the SEC is still tougher competing with teams used to winning championships. You think LSU would have less than 5 losses if JD had negative rush yards like Penix??

Penix has been great this year and I really like him. He deserves to be there for sure and he has been great in their biggest moments, but Daniels had way more pressure on him with how bad LSU's scoring D was. He conveniently left out how Penix needed the D to bail them out of an awful performance against a terrible, 3-win AZ. State team just to win. The defense needed a pick 6 in the 4th just to take the lead. You think LSU's D ever bailed JD out of anything this year?

JD had awesome performances on the road against Ole Miss and Bama and LSU still lost because of the D. Even in the first game against FSU, he still was LSU's leading rusher and had 410 total yards (and LSU coaches blew chances for a lot more points with bad decisions). If a guy's worst perceived game is a 400+ yard performance in the first game of the season against a team that went undefeated, then that is about as strong as it gets.
