re: Seat licenses and overbuilding stadiums were the beginning of the end for college football

The game experience took a major hit when the schools put TV first and the ticket holders second.
We saw games get longer and longer.
We saw kickoff times moved to noon est., 3:30 etc.
We saw rivalry games moved. Rivalries broken up.
We saw attractive made for TV games moved off campus to neutral venues.
All these things added up and have hurt attendance.

I agree but there’s plenty the administration can do to bring back the atmosphere. Close parts of the upper decks, improve concessions, roll back parking cost, and above all improve the product. Btw we don’t have ticket licenses, not the kind that’s transferable like the Saints. That’s another issue. Rather than selling ticket rights older fans just keep them and don’t go to most games.

With the tv money they became greedy
They are flowing in money
Coaches and facilities is an arms race yet they continue to make it more expensive for the average fan to attend and continue to milk fan base
It’s like bowl games attendance doesn’t matter yet tv money does and players don’t even care about playing in them unless it’s playoffs
They would rather start draft prep

I have discussed this numerous times with what may be considered the older tiger fans. Just so different now and technology and the greed of the schools has been a game changer. I tailgate for most big games and I can tell you that will not be happening much longer. I drive from Houston to for my tailgate. Basically I have to dedicate 3 days of my week for a tailgate. As for my season tickets those probably will not be renewed. Just too easy to get them off a stubhub type site. These AD’s had better be paying attention to this shift. They stand the chance to have what happened to malls across America. Just got left behind amd aren’t useful any longer.

None of this explains the people who actually do show up but then leave at halftime during a 1 score game against a conference opponent

Nah. the playoffs were.
This. Everyone including the OP will spend a fortune on going to games so long as their team is in the hunt. Once they start 2-3 and all hope is lost, they then say it’s about money and bitch. The reality is it’s about winning now and winning covers up all necessary evils.

Some fans will only come out when the team is doing well. 2 seasons ago the stadium was packed and tailgates were everywhere. Between covid and a team that is hard to watch, people don’t come as often. When LSU rebounds and is competing for the the championship, they will return.

Nope. In that respect, the gravy train is rolling faster than ever. But that’s part of my point. TV is where most people are choosing to watch the games. The stadium crowd will continue to decline.
OK but the TV money is the actual gravy train not ticket sales.

The change I can foresee in the future is less entire season packages, and more cluster packages of 3 games together.

All of this, and I would add that the two-week notice on what time the game will start creates an uncertainty that hurts attendance and planning. If we're going to have to host an 11am game, knowing about it at the beginning of the season would be helpful, at least from a planning perspective.
I know ESPN & CBS want to have the best games in the best time slots, but I hope in the next contract we can get to the point where they can announce at the beginning of the season what time every game will start.
GEAUX TIGERS!

I was at the Ole Miss game last night and the stadium was packed and rocking. Not sucking dick on the field helps.

Also, the concession stands in Tiger Stadium are garbage now.

They are selling the expensive stuff. It is the nosebleed seats that are empty.

Disagree. The main factor is everybody not being able to park even remotely close to their tailgate without paying a fortune. Nobody wants to walk 1/2 mile just to make it to their tailgate.

You get every game on tv. That’s what changed things. I tailgate for every game but can watch every game from the tailgate. We expanded too late. People talk about their stadium being full. Winning games and much smaller stadiums is the difference. . Ole Miss capacity 64,000. LSU stadium 102,321.

WRONG...college football has 'lost' many long term fans because of raised parking fees/new restrictions on tailgaiting/never ending ticket price increases/TV being much more important than fans and their long term loyalty/concessions continue to increase in price and decrease in quality....these 'fans' will NOT return ! time to smell the roses and either re-think all this OR, simply give in to TV $ and the hell with your loyal fans !

NIL is just the nail in the coffin

Times are changing. The money collected from filling seats will just be displaced as TV deals & who knows what the NIL leads to.
