They tried Bordelon at tackle, and he seems better suited at guard. He worked himself into a guy being given a shot at starting. We heard about him being committed in the weight room for a while. Sometimes borderline guys improve enough to start getting pt.

You are just taking the contrarian position that you like. It is ok to root for the guy. His play on the field will soon show us if he is good enough.

I think Nuss ends up being a starter in the nfl. It may take a few years and probably after being traded a time or two. He can make throws that few people can make. He wasn't very good when playing hurt. The mental side of being a QB will determine how far he goes, not his arm.

Okay, some doucebag, who puts out tripe to sell to fans, rated them poorly. Well, the NFL scouts and coaches rated them extremely high.
Sure, they performed well individually on their respective NFL teams, but as a unit at LSU, they did not perform as well.

Lane Kiffin isn't in the charity business. He brought in Harper to start at guard. Bordelon beat him out. You think Kiffin is just giving him a spot for shits and giggles?

Well they are playing different positions so why does that matter?

Decent pass blocker, garbage against the run. PFF rated him 253 out of 261 guards in run blocking in 2024 (2nd lowest among P4 guards) and 213/260 in 2025 (min 200 snaps).

Because we were talking about weaknesses on the OL. Try to keep up.

There is literally no way to know which one will be our biggest weakness or strength. We will find out. Davis is playing a harder position for sure. Borderlon has alot to prove. Thinking you actually know who will be better this year is just dumb. Davis struggled last year but was playing better by the end of year. Bordelon beat our a guy Kiffin hand picked to bring in and start. We will see.

I don't have a son so that makes your statement moot. Now run along.

No one with a passing knowledge of football could watch that line in 2019 and think that was an average line. That was a great line. They were awesome. Watch the Alabama game. Seriously, watch every play. Our line dominated Alabama.

If you don't know what you're looking at you might point out where they got pressure on the quarterback. But if you notice, they did it with numbers. That's on the quarterback to beat those kinds of pressure packages. And Burrow did it.

Reminder that our OL in 2019 was not very good in pass blocking.

wrong

you are thinking of 2017 and 2018 when we had bad pass blocking rankings. I still have the links saved.

on this board maybe. He’s down the depth chart

Probably by kiffin and the staff. They paid him at least 400k to come here.

Wrong? I stated facts. Refute them if you can, or assert that the conclusion is wrong even though the facts are correct. Is that your case? That even though FOUR earned starting positions in their rookie camps, SIX made NFL rosters, and FIVE have started in the NFL, and they won the trophy for best line, this was not a great line?

What’s missing from this discussion is nuance.

The 2019 OL struggled at times early in the season. We were very inconsistent running the football and leaned heavily on the short pass game to get around that. By mid-season it was better, but Auburn and the mud were still able to slow us down.

When CEH hit his stride and took over full control of the starting RB role and the OL gelled a little better as the season went on, they closed out playing extremely well. When we needed tough yards to convert 3rd downs and TDs vs Bama to close out that game, the OL and CEH got them.

Was that OL elite- probably not. But combined with CEH’s style, that offense and Joe pushing all the right buttons, they elevated tremendously over the course of the season. They were very good at the end of the season, the SECG and the Playoffs.

As for the Moore award, they aren’t seriously considered for that without at least making the Championship Game. Where you finish plays a bigger factor in that award than talent and blocking grades.

I liked your post except for this. I understand the different opinions on this. I thought the 2018 oline was good and had a chance to be great in 2019. Others thought it sucked.

The performance during 2019 should have settled the argument. I agree with you that it started shaky and got better. Sure, Auburn got the better of us, but Auburn’s dline was truly a great college dline. The last seven games the oline dominated everyone from Bama, Texas A&M, Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson.

By the end of it all I was surprised there was much disagreement that it was an elite line. But the NFL performance of those linemen - unmatched by any 2019 college team, or any LSU team in history - should have settled the issue.

That was an elite offensive line, manned by all-NFL starting talent. As Nick Saban said in his post mortem, “There are no weaknesses on that offense”.

Maybe for a brief run at the end of the season but they weren’t even remotely close to that level early in 2019. I would say the same about the 2001 offense. Overall- very good but you aren’t elite when you start the season well off the pace of what you become later.

A similar case can be made for the 2019 defense. Started solid, got banged up and struggled mid-season, and then played great to close the season and in the playoffs. Not allowing that Clemson offense to score a TD in the 2nd half is pretty damn strong. But overall- they were just good.

It’s all subjective, but elite coveys a level of consistency excellence in my opinion.

As memory serves, Clemson scored the first TD of the second half. But your point stands; that defense, like that offensive line, absolutely dominated the last six or seven games of the season.

And your criteria - that they have to dominate from beginning to end of the season to be elite - is okay. But it means that in it’s entire history, LSU has never had an elite offensive line, because 2019 was the best LSU line ever. Also, it means that there were zero elite offensive lines in college football that year.
