Sam Leavitt joining some elite company

Sure is nice to have a QB with wheels again, that can create something out of nothing. Against Clemson, Leavitt became the 3rd QB in LSU history to pass for 200+ yards and rush for 100+ yards in a single game. The first two- Burrow and Daniels.

The OL was not great Saturday. Decent. But not great. However, Leavitt has what those other two QBs had...the ability to still make a positive play, sometimes great play, even when things aren't perfect. He's not the runner that Daniels was and he's not the passer Burrow was. But he can move the chains even when the defense does everything right.

He reminded me a lot of Johnny manziel on some of those scrambles. Hes fun to watch and i hope he can stay healthy. Most defenses we play wont be as soft as Climpson.

I don't recall many of Leavitt's scrambles being due to the Oline just getting beat. He was usually in the pocket for a bit before heading out, or if he did head out early, I don't recall it really being due to a rusher coming in at him. Not saying it never happened, just don't recall it happening over and over.

The offense in general wasn't great. The Passing game grade was about a C+.
The OL and the passing game can be so much better. Not sure we'll show much Saturday night, but the QB/WR connection can improve. And having Phillip Wright with the 1's will help.

The gif in the OP shows both tackles whiffing on outside rushers.
But don't just take my word for it...

I thought the same. JM was quick and fast. Sam runs violently. It seemed like he was looking to truck someone.

Sam is going to be an incredible fit in Lane's offense. I expect big things from him this year.
BUT, I don't think I've ever seen a worse low effort defense captured in a single gif like this.
DE doesn't contain, LB trips running into an offensive player from behind, safety over pursues and whiffs completely, two DBs covering one receiver while Sam isn't even looking downfield, one LB completely gives up on the play and another misses the tackle to stop him short of a TD.
They should've made Tom Allen walk back home after this performance

I think you are comparing him with Burrow and Daniels in their second year at LSU. Remember JD could not pass that well his first year at LSU. He improved greatly his senior year. Burrow developed through the year with his game against Central Florida in the bowl game a prediction for 2019 period
