No one gives a crap about the halftime shows. Give us a big, loud band that does pregame well. That's what Roy gave you. A big, loud band that sounded great. Halftime shows lacked the last few years but no ones cares about halftime shows

I don't know, people were saying the band was a shell of itself when King was here when news broke that he was suspended on here some years back.

He was my band director from 90-94. He was at every TB alumni reunion event since retiring and his TB preseason camp pep talk was legendary! My last memory was watching him conduct "God of our Fathers" at Tigerrama concert late last year. He looked very frail then. I'll miss him. RIP Mr. Wickes!

I went to LSU to march for him. I was not disappointed in the experience. He was the consummate professional.

Sad to hear this.

It seemed even after he retired, he was still part of the GBFTL. He seemed to always march down Victory Hill with the band.

Frank and Linda were head and shoulders above what LSU has now.

He was a major reason I attended LSU. He conducted a clinic here for an honor band here in South Texas. That’s where I first met him. He said LSU had out of state money and said I should attend a game. I did, had a blast. He talked with me and my dad for a good hour after the band marched back to the band hall. I spent 3 years in the drumline. Great times.

He was a great ambassador for the school.

Heard him direct the band in the 90s and early 2000s.

RIP Frank.

I'll never forget my audition for him my freshman year. Nailed it! His only complaint was that I needed to learn how to "mark time" the LSU way and forget about that stuff I had learned in Kentucky. Then he handed me my music folio for 1st Trumpet and sent me out into the sweltering heat of an August afternoon in south Louisiana.

What a wonderful man he was!

Auditions were much different then than early 2000s came up to play for Roy spring of my senior year. I always thought it was just a ploy to find brass for Roy band though it was the definition of a mediocre audition but hey.. I was willing to carry a low brass instrument in tiger band so I was in

1. You play trumpet no doubt
2. You must be a little younger than me. He was there all 5 of my years (had to squeeze in that 2007 title!)

My neighbor's son played drums under Mr. Wickes direction. He said he was a strict disciplinarian, but great teacher. They butted heads many times and every now and then, Mr. Wickes would let him win a conversation, but that was very few times.

RIP Mr. Wickes. Never knew you, but from everything I heard, you touched thousands of young people's lives. When they left you, they were much better off and prepared for life.

This is my biggest concern now that there’s no Frank Wickes influence on the directors anymore. Once Roy got canned the Frank Wickes line ended and we now have people that don’t know or care about LSU’s traditions in charge. Tiger Band has been on the downslide since Frank Wickes retired and they let Linda Moorhouse walk. If they change pregame it would be curtains on them.
Absolutely!

There are a few militant TB Alums around (Like myself) that will not allow major changes to Pre-Game to take place.

TB has definitely been on the downslide since Wickes retired.

The overall quality and high standards is just not there currently.

LSU let Llinas walk to Oregon last year, which was another blow to the program.

Queen and Talley could care less. They both need to Geaux, a la Alleva and FKA.
