Jim "Two Silhouettes on" Deshaies
Coach McDaniel
Posted by jat912 on 9/18/25 at 8:52 pm
My wife and I are watching the game. She says Mike McDaniel looks like a guy than won a "Coach for a Day" contest, and the team just decided to keep him.
I couldn't really disagree.

Have a look at Baylor, especially if your kid wants to go pre-med.
On our recruiting visit, the first 2 things they said were:
1. "We are unapologetically Christian", and
2. "80% of our pre-med students get into medical school."
They did not lie. However, the second statement has a catch - if you don't make the grades in the first semester, they "invite" you to select another major. The students call it "Business by Christmas."
My daughter got involved in the Catholic student organization, very TradCath. And she did get into med school (subtle brag, but I'm a proud dad.)

re: What is your vote on the “more dad” shoes? Hokas or Brooks?

I'm normally not a "name brand" person, but Brooks shoes have been a pleasant surprise. I had tried Hokas and OnClouds, which dominate the clinical medical field (nurses, techs, etc). Those 2 didn't do anything for me. I hadn't realized how much my feet were hurting until I put on a pair of Ghosts - the same ones I just wore through a 24hr shift.

My wife and I have had the same FB account for almost 10 years. She created an account to track friends on a mission trip, then I took it over. We also have the same email address and bank accounts.
My daughter will sometimes use our FB account for Marketplace.

re: Any of you baws or bawettes prefer Dauphin Island over Gulf Shores/Orange Beach?

We have rented houses at Christmas in Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan. Had good experiences, both times had the beach pretty much to ourselves. Some houses are big enough for multiple families.

The DI/FM ferry has nice scenery, but isn't always open, and often fills up with cars still in line. If you miss the ferry, you have to go all the way around Mobile Bay to get to FM.

Barrasso (Wyoming) is a veteran fundraiser, does a lot of travelling to help candidates, is from a safe deep-red state, and, AFAIK, doesn't have intra-party drama.
Also, he is a physician.

Mitch McConnell

He gets a lot of hate from both parties, but, once again, it looks like he made the right budget decisions for Senate races this cycle. I like Cruz, but he obviously did fine without NRSC money.
Also remember, he was instrumental in keeping Merrick Garland off of SCOTUS and giving conservatives a 6-3 majority.
Let's give credit where credit is due, and hope his successor is as successful.

MAGA household here.
Voted at lunch today. Wife, daughter, and MIL voted early.
My neighbor's son is voting for the first time this evening after football practice. He has been MAGA since middle school - he would stand out in the front yard waving a Trump flag, just for fun.
I think I am just as emotional about his voting today as when my daughter voted for the first time 4 years ago.
There are young people who understand, and are willing to stand and fight. We just have to protect, teach, and reinforce them.

Well done, sir
As much as I dislike NYT, their Election Day coverage and analytics are top-shelf.
I did this in 2016, and did not in 2020.

Question about Early Voting and "cannibalization"
Posted by jat912 on 10/26/24 at 11:17 pm
I am pleasantly surprised by the EV data for MAGA, and want to thank you deep-divers for keeping us up to date. However.....
Does anyone know of a metric to assess how much of an Election Day drop the Rs will suffer because of banking the early vote? IIRC, Florida EV for Dems was thought to be enough in 2016, but it eventually became apparent that they had cannibalized their Total Vote, and Election Day R turnout was enough to give the state to DJT.
I would like to think that he new-voter registrations would account for the increase in EV, and that the traditional R voters will still vote on Election Day - but I would like to base that on some objective measure.
TIA :usa:

Developmentally, veins, arteries, and nerves travel and grow together, so it would not be all that unusual for you to have a nerve injury during needle insertion. The numbness and tingling may last a few weeks. You should be concerned if you have any loss of motor function, which is much less common.
Good news for the 2nd Amendment in California - CA AG withdraws from defense of SB1327

"Attorneys for both legal actions received word from Newsom’s attorney (that) the Attorney General’s office had advised the governor 'that it did not intend to defend the validity' of the contested section of the law. SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb said this unusual development suggests the state’s position is in trouble."

Judge denies CA AG motion to dismiss as moot (Bloomberg)
Cliffs: CA Legislature passed a bill, signed by Gov Newsome, that would allow he government to collect attorney fees if plaintiffs lost on any merit claim in a 2A case, but that plaintiffs would only be entitled to attorney fees if they won on all merit claims in a 2A case.
Apparently, CA took this action in response to similar action in TX regarding abortion-based cases filed against the government. The CA AG (Bonta) had previously publicly declared the TX law to be unconstitutional.
