CFB wil certainly be aware of storm brewing at LSU very soon.
Saban was also saying how its unrealistic to expect the turn around year 1. But there you have it. Straight from the goats mouth.
Been awesome seeing how objective Saban has been in retirement.

Except he hasn’t been (and that’s a good thing for LSU).
I believe he heavily steered Lane into taking the job.

Nick knows.
I wonder if something was going on behind the scenes with him and Skip that made him leave. Nothing personal but stuff like money, facilities, etc.
He made a comment in passing during media days a few weeks back like in regards to Lane coming to LSU that was something like, "He has everyone pulling the rope in the same direction even more so than when I was there."

Maybe but Nick famously says he didn't want to leave. Remember how long it took to get him out of Baton Rouge? He had just signed that $2.3m per contract at LSU and the Dolphins had to give him $5 million to get him to listen. That was Super Bowl coach money back then.
I'm fairly certain Nick has never made a decision based on money in his life. Idk. I'd love for him to write a tell all book one day.

The money and the lure of being a HC in the NFL were too much for Saban to turn down at that time. Saban has said multiple times he regretted leaving LSU.

What? He never said he didn't want to leave. He said that he regrets leaving. That's different.

Hard to argue that LSU is one of the top 3-5 jobs in football.
Along with LSU, there are only 2-3 schools that are in the discussion.
Alabama, especially with Nick's compounding on his own success, was a pretty great job.
Ohio State, especially with Day being successful, shows that the inherent advantages in recruiting, brand, and schedule make this a great job.
... Can you really include Georgia? Yes, Kirby won 2 recently. And Richt always had them in the mix.
The media darlings of Tx, ND, USC.... have not consistently delivered championships.

Laughing my but off. I have one group that says Bertman lost Saban because he built a shrine to himself with the new Alex Box. Now I read that he built a cheap new stadium. Hilarious!!!!!

From what I understand from 20+ years ago, Nick asked for several things from LSU......he followed up by saying, "I dont to leave LSU". Skip said, "We dont want you to leave either". I've never cared much for Skip since then. I don't believe Saban really wanted to go and Ms. Terry loved Baton Rouge. Skip didnt try hard enough to keep him IMO.
I also remember Saban saying he didnt want to coach pro because of overpayed "kids" as being one reason plus players make more than coaches.
I have a long memory for things like that.

Uh, taking Bama out of it because he wasn't the HC and that is likely what Saban was referring to, what exactly does LSU have over USC from a potential standpoint?

So, all rumors and stories. Not something you can actually point to that he actually said any of that, and all could be misquoted since it’s from your memory.
It’s well known that Saban and his wife loved LSU and how they were treated. But I don’t think you are right that he unwillingly left. It may have been a hard decision for him but He wanted to try the pros. It didn’t work out.

If Saban had been a career college guy then I could have seen him staying at LSU and building a dynasty. Given his prior history as DC in NFL it just made sense that with the success he had that he was gonna want to challenge himself at the highest level at some point and he did. It just didn’t work out.
