did you conveniently forget the massive attrition we had with RETARDO?

This. LSU's roster was depleted by the end of his last year. It was BAD.

However, he showed the LSU administration and Emmert what could happen and what was needed.

No he didnt. Youre just making up shite to bash Saban
quote:

LSU Chancellor Mark Emmert and athletics director Joe Dean told DiNardo that a change of leadership was needed.

Over his final few weeks, DiNardo said, he had not taken some disciplinary steps he should have because he did not want any more negative publicity. DiNardo said Monday night. "Guys not going to class and being late to meetings, I haven't addressed in recent weeks like I have in the past. I let those things slide because I didn't want another crisis.

"Had I monitored recruiting more closely, choosing players who would work academically as well as on the field, this program would have been more successful.", DiNardo said."If I had graduated every player that I recruited, we would have had a winning season every year."

The program was left with 15 fewer scholarship players than the 85 allowed by the NCAA. Off the field, arrests and allegations of dealing with agents tarnished LSU's reputation.

Dinardo was a dumpster fire, and Emmert recognized that he wasnt building a championship program, and took immediate action
quote:

"It all depends on how you define success," Emmert said. "At the time Nick Saban came in, we had the lowest graduation rate in the SEC. By the time he left, it was one of the highest graduation rates in the SEC.

"We had young men getting in all kinds of off-the-field problems before he showed up. By the time he left, we had virtually none of those."

quote:

Under Dinardo, LSU opened with two victories in 1999 then lost eight games, the longest losing streak in school history.

Remember the story. While at Michigan State, Lynn Amedee told Saban that if he wanted a national championship, he should take the job at LSU, and build a wall around La. The rest is history.

Saban did NOT lay the foundation for this program to keep being successful

You're being killed for this but it's true. Saban was gonna get his NC but Dinardo saved him about a year or two of work.

2/3 of your downvotes are 20 something to 30 year old punkola's who don't know even know what Dinardo looks like. And, y'all probably think Curly Hallman is one of the 3 Stooges

I'll give you this. Saban doesn't come to lsu without Dinardo. Getting Faulk was massive. No one wanted to come to Lsu. He got that going. Saban built and showed the way.

Dinardo inherited

Chuck Wiley
Eddie Kennison
Gabe Northern
Todd McClure
James Gillyard
David Wesley
Allen Stansberry
Pat Rogers
David Lafleur
Sheddrick Wilson
Kendall Cleveland
Jamie Howard
Nicky Savoie
Robert Toomer
Tory James
Denard Walker
Chad Kessler
And a bunch more…

Once all those guys graduated or left, even with Faulk, Booger and the rest of his recruits LSU went into the toilet.

It's a much deeper issue that you recognize, or at least acknowledge in your post.
LSU was far behind in facilities when Saban came here. He started campaigning almost immediately for a better academic center, indoor practice, better weight room, more nutrition for players(before this was allowed by NCAA) and all operations centralized and separate from all other sports. His vision, and persistent badgering of the AD and BOS had long lasting positive effects, many of which are still being integral in the success of current teams.
No LSU fan should be anything but appreciative toward Nick for taking us out of a horrible football era and elevating the TIgers to national relevance that has continued to present. Hate the Bama fans if you like(I do) for their arrogance among other things, but show Nick respect and appreciation!

Money pays salaries. Emmert increased the HC salary from $150,000 to $1.2 million: Top 3 in the country.

Money buys facilities. LSU built the Football Operations Center in 2005. LSU built the Academic Center for Student-Athletes in 2002.

Facilities Improve Recruiting.

No. But Saban says he was TOLD the plans for the football facilities. He did not say that he demanded them. He was TOLD the plans when he was hired.

Mark Emmert had a plan for a Flagship University. He knew that a successful football program was the key to fundraising to create the Flagship University.

The Flagship football program plan included investing heavily into the football program: increase coaches salaries (8X) and hire an elite head coach, pour money into building up the football facilities. The football facilities were planned by Mark Emmert. He told those plans to Saban:
quote:

I WAS TOLD WHEN I CAME HERE there were three things we were gonna do: improve the living conditions for the players (which we have), build an academic support center (which we have), and the last thing we were gonna do is build a football facility for football. THAT'S WHAT THE COACH [Saban] WAS TOLD.
Nick Saban stating that we was TOLD the plans for the football program.

Emmert, the Board, and the boosters watched DiNardo rebuild LSU recruiting and the LSU program. Where were you? They decided to play big-money football, and open up the budget and pay a coach 8 times more than the previous coach.

Saban was in the right place at the right time. LSU was finally ready to spend. Saban benefited from it, but he did no cause it.

I graduated in 1990, and that is pretty much how I remember it happened.

I think we have found Mark Emmert's burner account.
