MSu is not LSU. He was damn good at TOLDEo and as a DC with the browns. had he been at OSU or USC i bet he builds a similar program.

you are trying waaaaaaay too hard kid.

SO because he did not build one before LSU or bama means he did not earn it.

yeah falling back with 2 straight losing seasons. did you conveniently forget the massive attrition we had with RETARDO?

saban got us facilities and culture change.

how many players did retardo recruit on that 2003 natty team?

DiNardo had issues, but a big problem he had was that LSU was too fricking cheap to play football at an elite level. DiNardo's salary was $150,000 per year.

I spoke to a former player that played under Hallman and Gerry D. Everyone hated Hallman and loved Gerry D. Joe Dean tied Gerry’s hands with lack of a willingness to invest and help the program. Also coordinator hires doomed Gerry

No, he didn't.

This is the mistake everyone keeps making.

Every coach in history has DEMANDED better facilities, better equipment, better assistants, better salaries, etc.

But coaches don't make money flow. They never did, and they never will.

Mark Emmert wanted a Flagship University. Emmert knew that a successful football program was the key to fundraising. He knew that LSU needed a Flagship football program in order to create his Flagship university. So he made the decision to get money invested in LSU football. The first part of that investment was investing in a new head coach, but he knew he would be investing more money in the program to improve facilities, staffing, recruiting, etc.

Mark Emmert made the decision to invest in LSU football long before he ever hired Saban.

Saban was part of the investment.

Mark Emmert built the foundation.
He made the money flow where it needed to go.

DiNardo brought in Faulk and a host of players that ended up winning a NC under Saban.

Kevin Faulk did not win a Natty. Saban arrived in 2000 and didn’t win it all until 2003. Guys that Saban recruited won a Natty.

If you can’t acknowledge what Saban did for LSU the you’re too blinded by your Bama hate to know history.

Kick rocks.

That was the freshman class of 95, they could’ve redshirted 3 times and still not been on the 03 roster.
Cmon man, Saban was hired late Nov '99 with most of the (Feb)2000 class locked up by Gerry even after a dismal 3-8 showing.
The '99 and 2000 classes were pretty loaded and some were on BCSNC team.

MOST of the 2003 players were Saban guys, but not all, and that's not the point anyway.

The point is that DiNardo brought back the magic. Before DiNardo, many elite Louisiana players left Louisiana to play college football. DiNardo reversed that trend, and he recruited elite Louisiana players like Faulk to play at LSU.

Dinardo laid some good ground work, there's no doubt. But Saban built on that and then won at a level that I had not experienced in my life as an LSU fan - dating back to 1973.

Les, IMHO should thank his lukck stars every day that Skip hired him when he did. I think had he stayed at Okie Lite or gone to Michigan he would never have come close to the success he had here.

DiNardo - Laid the foundation
Saban - Built on it and solidified the program forever going forward
Miles - Sustained the success
O - Delivered the GOAT season
Kelly - Rebuilt the program after a few really bad years

All of our coaches in this era have done at least some great things. Saban was a huge part of that

Fresh take. No, of course Dinardo wasn't ultimately successful here, he was fired.

But, the building block season of Saban's LSU run was 2001 (the SEC title team).

That team was L-O-A-D-E-D with Dinardo recruits.

Davey, Dom, Reed, Royal, Toefield, Ryan Clark, Trev Faulk, the Greens, Bradie James, just to name a few.

LSU Football in 1999:

3–8 (1–7 SEC)

Vandy had a better record and standing that year.

The one SEC win came after DiNardo was fired... LSU *dominated* Arky that game... I guess that shows how much the players perhaps responded to his firing. He left LSU football in shambles.
