I stopped at the parts he went to bama before that it was a great series

The BCS was designed to ensure that conference bowl tie ins didn’t prevent the best teams from playing each other so that championships could be decided head to head.
How is that not exactly what happened?
quote:Oklahoma state lost to a 6-6 team. They squandered their opportunity.
Oklahoma State had played a tougher schedule and won their conference. They deserved a chance to represent the Big 12 against the best of the SEC.
quote:Theres a reason its a widely panned foregone conclusion that lsu would have soundly beaten oklahoma state in that matchup.
The only arguments for Alabama were best loss and eye test.

LSU and Alabama had already played each other.
LSU and Oklahoma State had not

The entire town of Stillwater and specifically the OSU athletic department was rocked by a horrific tragedy days before that game that they lost in overtime on the road.
If any team deserved a mulligan in 2011, it was Oklahoma State.

Hence, settling it on the field vs the eye test.

I just don’t watch TV nearly as frequently as would merit buying a TV package myself. Much easier to just use a family login than pay $80/month something I use once a week.
Part that sucks is that YoutubeTV itself doesn’t work for me because I live so far away from the “home area” rip

Well, that stubborn coach was 3-2 head-to-head after the GOTC.
It means: After the Game of the Century, Miles was 3-2 against Saban.

The conference bowl tie ins did not prevent the 2 best teams from playing each other. Isn’t that what you said was the entire point?
quote:
The entire town of Stillwater and specifically the OSU athletic department was rocked by a horrific tragedy days before that game that they lost in overtime on the road.
And Alabama missed 4 field goals before they lost a regular season game in overtime to what was being talked about as one of the best team’s in history.
quote:Why do they deserve one over Alabama and Stanford who’s only losses were to top 5 teams?
If any team deserved a mulligan in 2011, it was Oklahoma State.

21-0 is pretty definitive.

Apparently not, because a person capable of reading doesn’t type this:

It's a pretty good series. However, after a while you get worn out about hearing about the process. Over and Over and Over.

But you are assuming Alabama was better than Oklahoma State.
They almost certainly were.
But the BCS was to ensure ALL the best teams had a chance to compete against each other.
The only thing we saw settled on the field was LSU and Alabama.
LSU and Oklahoma State never got that chance.
The entire Big 12 conference was deemed unworthy based on eye test, the antithesis of why the BCS was created.

So things happened on a football field in a football game.

Horrific off field tragedy vs missed FGs.
Conference champion vs division non-winner.
OSU had the objectively most difficult schedule and had beaten more ranked teams than the other two combined.
Stanford wasn’t even really in the discussion FTR.
Saban and other coaches voted OSU 7th in their ballots btw in order to manipulate the rankings, in addition to his TV campaign tour to whip votes.
Not saying I blame him, but I certainly blame the media for not giving Gundy equal time and for carrying water for a coach they feared like beaten puppies.

If you watched that game and didn't come away from it thinking that our coach at the time was simply too stubborn to win, then i can't help you.
Then why don't you explain how the "too stubborn to win" coach won the GOTC? Conversely, how does the "GOAT" lose to a coach who's "too stubborn to win?"
You got some 'splainin to do.
TBH, Les was one player (Ryan Perrilloux) away from being 5-0 vs Saban.

Documentaries" like this are always interesting but they are also always slanted and revisionist history. They are a step above movies that are "based on a true story" but far from historically accurate.
Yeah, they made it sound like LSU didn't recruit black kids or inner city black kids from Louisiana and Michael Clayton was on there basically saying he wasn't even considering LSU because of that.
When Saban got here, we already had guys like Josh Reed, Domanick Davis, Robert Royal, Trev Faulk, Brady James and Chad Lavalais (well, he had previously committed to LSU and qualified when Saban got here). And those were great players for LSU and basically the nucleus of Saban's first year. And before Saban got here, DiNardo had guys like Kevin Faulk, Rondell Mealey, Cecil Collins, Herb Tyler, Larry Foster, etc.
So that part was a bunch of BS. Yes, it was harder to get the black kids to come here because we sucked for over half a decade. So naturally, we didn't get as many. DiNardo started turning that around and then Saban really focused on it while winning at a higher level which brought in great recruits.
Also, the documentary left out the first meeting of Saban and LSU at Bama which was a phenomenal atmosphere. I think we won the game, did we not?

What does this even mean?
The GOTC was played on 11/5/11. After the game played on 11/5/11, Les held a 3-2 head-to-head advantage over Saban. IOW, Les was 3-2 head-to-head after the GOTC.

What other team didn’t squander their opportunity and should’ve been there instead?
The teams that won their conference, i.e., Okie State and Wisconsin.
There was no on-the-field line-of-sight that shows the SEC was better than either the Big 12 or the Big 10.
OTOH, we proved directly we were better than the Pac-12 (we bested their champ Oregon on the field in Jerry World). We proved we were better than the Big East champ (we bested their champ WVU on the field in Morgantown). We won the SEC on the field.
What wasn't demonstrated was our on-field superiority to the Big 12 or the Big 10.

Is this some sort of positive? One would think the "GOAT" could've found a better PK.

I turned it off after he left LSU because frick Alabama. Good stuff until then though

They almost certainly were.
Based on what? Why would you say this?

Still waiting for an explanation of how that’s not what happened. Especially given your above statement.
quote:
The only thing we saw settled on the field was LSU and Alabama.
So, the 2 best teams playing for a championship regardless of conference affiliation like you said.
quote:
LSU and Oklahoma State never got that chance.
Lsu and Stanford didn’t either.
quote:
The entire Big 12 conference was deemed unworthy based on eye test,
1. How?
2. If it was, so what? Where are your tears for the pac 12? And whatever conferences Boise and Houston were in that year?
quote:
the antithesis of why the BCS was created.
According to what? There was controversy about the bcs selections way more than there was not. Was the pac 10 deemed unworthy in 2003? The sec in 2004? The big east in 2007?
The example you’re looking for of the big 12 being deemed unworthy is the playoff committee and tcu.

So things happened on a football field in a football game.
So things happened off a football field not in a football game.

Horrific off field tragedy vs missed FGs.

Why should Alabama be punished for playing in the sand division as lsu?
Did Stanford win their conference?
quote:
OSU had the objectively most difficult schedule and had beaten more ranked teams than the other two combined.
OSU had objectively the most embarrassing loss. The same type of loss that eliminated similar teams in other seasons.
quote:
Stanford wasn’t even really in the discussion FTR.
Why not? They had 1 loss and won their division and their conference, the 2 reasons you listed why Alabama didn’t deserve to be in.
quote:
Saban and other coaches voted OSU 7th in their ballots btw
1. So behind the other 1 loss teams that didn’t lose to a 6-6 team?
2. So what?

No Im not fricking kidding. Saban said "It WASNT ABOUT THE $100,000, it was about not keeping their promise". Go back and listen really hard this time.
Again, he wasnt interested in coaching NFL. He wanted to work with young men. Some can't accept the fact Skip didnt try hard enough to keep him. I think Saban didnt feel appreciated and left on principle.

Just as much as the plane crash it was posted in response to.

I’m sure that was weighing heavily on his mind as he was watching his team not allow lsu to cross the 50 yard line 2 months later.
