Let's revisit Nick's natty greatness: 2003 - legit 2009 - legit but it should be noted that Texas starting QB left the game on their first series. Unfortunate for Texas but injuries occur. But what a break for Bama. 2011 - MULLIGAN. Didn't win their division/conference. Never, ever should've been given a rematch. 2012 - benefitted from a much easier schedule than us. We had to play four top-10 SEC games in row. We went .500. They only had to play two such games. They also went .500. Maybe some partial credit? TBD 2015 - fully legit 2017 - MULLIGAN. Didn't win their division/conference. No business in the playoffs. 2020 - no self-respecting coach would claim this as legit. It's like playing the Masters at Webb Park and half the field skips it because it's not Augusta National. But we are talking the Alabama Asterisks.

Yeah for so many of Alabama championship years things always broke their way . And I do not count the 2020 season as that was a joke of a season

Exactly. I personally believe there's more Skip said in regards to his approach to the negotiation that wasn't aired. Sucks they showed Skip in that light, especially since he's no longer here to elaborate more. I shouldn't have expected anything less from ESPN.

Yeah. Skip wasn't paying him what Miami was. It wasn't like the difference was a few hundred thousand dollars.

Thanks for the info, but I knew about that because my son has YouTube TV. There are channels I like that he doesn't have though.

Don't you have to switch between apps though Drizz?

That seems like a pain.

You do, but it takes like 5 seconds, no different than flipping channels on a cable box.

I use an external Amazon firestick on one TV and the other is a built in Fire TV. All the apps are based there and it’ll remember last used apps and last channels for the digital antenna ($20 one time cost). For ESPN, you can start watching a game and switch to another game by pressing back button and selecting another game. It’s neither complicated or time consuming.

Trying to watch this, it’s awesome, and …. Commercial for 2 minutes.
I watched the 2008-2009 segments while I was prepping for a colonoscopy. The two were well-matched.

Well, that stubborn coach was 3-2 head-to-head after the GOTC. Regardless of who our HC was they didn't deserve to be there. They had their opportunity and they lost.

If you watched that game and didn't come away from it thinking that our coach at the time was simply too stubborn to win, then i can't help you.

Without ruining it for anyone that hasn’t seen it yet, I was completely stunned about the genesis/inspiration for “the process.” Anyone else?

Ok, I may have to look into that. I thought it took at least 45 seconds to a minute to back out of and app an tune into another

I had always thought it was a Saban creation. Learn something new every day.

I thought it was something he brought to Michigan St as HC after leaving the Browns, not the way it actually happened.

I'm not a fan of Ryan Clark and his media personality but hearing him say what he said made me smile.

I like Van Lathan as a personality on The Ringer when it comes to pop culture and The Midnight Boys. Again, it's nice to know that these people stepped up to the mic and said what we all felt especially how the documentary portrayed LSU fans.

Saban - The Documentary

Started watching it, I just can't do it. Way too much Alabama in there. Oh well, I tried

I can at least deal with Saban now but during his whole time while at Alabama I couldn't stand his or Alabama's guts. Still hate Alabama with a passion!

It is told from an Alabama-centric point of view.

Saban and Sexton both said he was leaning to stay at LSU

So many just waiting to eat whatever shite Saban is shoveling

This is his legacy defining documentary. Of course he’s going to paint himself as this poor victim that didn’t reeeeally want to leave but hey Skip said thanks and good luck so what else could I do???

In no world could Skip come anywhere close to what Miami was offering. If Saban wanted to stay then why the meeting with Skip? Pure revisionism at its finest.

Thanks for waking the sleeping giant, but Saban and Terry made it clear in that same episode that both did not love Baton Rouge, but he failed to mention he had lost a ton of money on bad business deals in LA, and he had always bought his own hype that he was Belichick’s disciple stuck in college while the best of the best and the real glory were all in the NFL.

He left Toledo for the Browns, almost left East Lansing for New York, and almost left BR for Indy or Chicago in previous years.

He was gone, the only hesitation he had was if Miami was the right spot. Had he signed Brees, (oh right the doctors said he couldn’t, more deflecting and revisionism), he would probably still be in the NFL and never would have set foot in Tuscaloosa.

The whole college is where I’m really happy BS was because he didn’t like the level playing field of the pros and certainly didn’t like dealing with professional athletes because he couldn’t dog cuss them the way he did to “student athletes”. Same reason he quit when NIL and the portal somewhat equalized CFB.

Jason Taylor made it clear he and virtually everyone else didn’t like his approach and it wasn’t going to work long term.

What does this even mean? Miles never beat Alabama again after that game.

By the time he left he loved LSU. His wife loved it here. Why do you think he was in Kiffin's ear "go to LSU and never look back"? He has admitted that if he could do it all over again, he would have never left LSU.

I've heard those same arguments over and over again. I believed them too. All I'm saying is, I watched the documentary and now I don't believe a single word of that.
Neither him, nor Mrs. Terry, are stupid enough to say anything bad about any place or anybody. You have to pay attention to what a man does, not what he says. I could be reading it wrong. I guess we can agree to disagree.

No BitBuster, you are 100% correct.

Don’t believe these people that for some reason are desperate to convince themselves Saban regrets leaving the jewel of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge lol.

You are correct, Terry makes it clear they loved the small college town feel of East Lansing, where they spent 10 years.

Baton Rouge ain’t that, clearly.

Saban didn’t just say he was homesick or had second thoughts. Terry said they both cried, Sexton said he told him this was a mistake. And that wasn’t right he got there.

Do I doubt that they settled in and were happy enough and even really enjoyed the end of 01 and 03? Not at all. But the idea that they were going to close all options and retire in BR and never look back is was simply never on the table. Period.

Saban never said a positive or sentimental thing about BR until post Covid when he legacy as the GOAT was already written and he could afford to be magnanimous.

When he was recruiting against Miles it was war and he took no prisoners.

The gifting us Lane nonsense is just that. Lane needed cover to make a very controversial decision that he was always going to make on his own anyway and using ESPNs new front man as an excuse was a win win for him and Saban could look like a hero too so it was beneficial to both.

Again, Saban started everything and I’m extremely grateful for those years.

But anyone that thinks Saban ever felt a second of “regret” for leaving BR given where he is today vs when he left is simply not in touch with reality

preach on

This Saban image massaging tour he’s been on the last 2 years is despicable. Nothing is ever his fault. He only wanted what was good for the game. He always put the kids first.

All bullshite. He’s the biggest egomaniac to ever coach a game. It was always about Nick. If you couldn’t help him win games, you held no value.

That attitude won him a bunch of games so credit to him, but Nick Saban is absolutely not some paragon of righteousness and high morals individual. He’s an a-hole.

The BCS was designed to ensure that conference bowl tie ins didn’t prevent the best teams from playing each other so that championships could be decided head to head.

Oklahoma State had played a tougher schedule and won their conference. They deserved a chance to represent the Big 12 against the best of the SEC.

The only arguments for Alabama were best loss and eye test.

It was an injustice to everyone but Alabama, and it broke the BCS because all the conferences were outraged by it, and even viewers tuned out.
