Perhaps purgatory haha. Or maybe borrowing from CS Lewis’ The Great Divorce where saints (i.e. those already in Heaven) come down to accompany the recently deceased further up into Heaven. Great and easy read if you’ve never read it.
And that’s the whole point. ND deserves their #4 ranking this year. Regardless of schedule. They’ve got talent, as we saw last year, and most of it has come back. They’re well coached. And recently, they’ve performed about as well as predicted at the start of the season. There’s no reason to think they won’t contend for a title, even if they did have a stronger schedule.
I think my argument is Notre Dame is not any more overrated than lots of major programs, and definitely not more overrated than LSU recently. So who are we to freak out that they’re ranked highly?
I actually think I agree with this criticism most. Like someone previously mentioned their weak schedule are often due to the ACC being crap and scheduling teams that end up not being as good years out (ie Wisconsin). But they have never really had the kind of dominant teams that other top dogs have had. It’s usually disciplined but unexciting offense with stout defense that gets them wins. They’ve had solid corners (which I consider skill players) but on offense I can only really think of Jeremiyah Love and maybe Kyren Williams. The rest just kind of exist and do their jobs to a decent enough capacity to win. I think this absolutely can affect the perception that they’re overrated, since they don’t have those big name players in recent history.
lol the link he was using in his argument only covers through 2020. It’s actually using years almost exclusively BEFORE 2019
That’s a good reference, thanks! Still, most of this seems to rely on seasons from before any current players were even born. I’m not sure how much relevance that has for a preseason poll in 2026. I think saying they’ve got a cheese schedule this year and don’t have to play conference championships is fair criticism but it’s not like they’ve mostly backed up their rankings with results in recent times. Weird to me that people still lose their minds at seeing ND ranked highly in the preseason
Bro according to your very own link, Notre Dame is only ranked 1 below LSU. And I’m sure the last 5 years wouldn’t do us any favors. By this argument, LSU is also one of the consistently most overrated teams…
Can you bear this out stats rather than gut tho? Like maybe rankings vs computer stats? I still feel like if Notre Dame has been recently overrated, it would not really be by all that much.
They got their shite rocked in 2012 that’s true. But in 2018 and 2020 (their other 2 playoff years) they had a better margin against Clemson and Bama than the teams that then played them in the Natty (Alabama and Ohio State respectively). So I still don’t think that’s the huge letdown that people make it out to be given the strength of the teams ND played those years.
Yeah they don’t play an SEC schedule but neither do most Top 25 teams. And the only time they’ve made the 12 team playoff, they made a run to the Natty and held their against Ohio State with a QB that couldn’t even pass.

ND has a 21-20 (.512) record against teams that finished ranked at the end of the year in that time span. LSU is 19-27 (.413), and 10 of those wins are Joe Burrow. NDs record against ranked teams isn’t the greatest but it’s still a winning record. I just feel like we don’t have much room to criticize on this given how we’ve performed this last decade… here’s to hoping the next one is different though!
There seems to be a common theme in the AP preseason rankings thread of people saying that AP voters never learn by ranking ND so high preseason, that they’re always overrated heading into the year, ranked by name not reality, etc. To see how that bears out, here’s a look at preseason vs post season rankings for ND and LSU over the last 10 years:

ND
2025: 6->10
2024: 7->2
2023: 13->14
2022: 5->18
2021: 9->8
2020: 10->5
2019: 9->12
2018: 12->5
2017: NR->11
2016: 10->NR
TOTAL: -4 total AP ranks over 10 seasons
AVG: -0.4 AP ranks from pre to postseason per season

LSU
2025: 9->NR
2024: 13->NR
2023: 5->12
2022: NR->16
2021: 16->NR
2020: 6->NR
2019: 6->1 (GOAT)
2018: 25->6
2017: 13->18
2016: 5->13
TOTAL: -46 total AP ranks over 10 seasons
AVG: -4.6 AP ranks per season

Where does the narrative come from that ND is consistently overrated? Relative to pre season expectations, it seems they usually perform pretty on par. Only 2 seasons (2022. 2016) with significant underperformances dropping by 5 ranks or more. Meanwhile LSU over 10 seasons has had 7 overrated preseason rankings. The only years we weren’t overrated was Kelly’s first year and the 2 Joe Burrow years. So where’s the narrative that ND is consistently ranked too high preseason come from? Somewhere before the last decade? From just 2016 and then repeated? I really just don’t get it, especially coming from us… I know they typically play a weaker schedule, but in the eyes of the AP voter they typically do about how folks expect them to with their schedule at the beginning of the year. LSU can’t say the same.
I mean ND played in the Natty 2 years ago and had a pretty dang good team last year and missed the playoffs just because of a missed PAT to A&M and a 3 point loss to the national runner ups, both early in the year with a freshman QB. I think they could’ve made a deep run had they made the playoffs. A high ranking seems justified now, it’s not Brian Kelly’s notre dame
Yep I think that’s the only time it’s ever happened!

LSU- Wins Football and Basketball NC

LSU will win both football and basketball national championships this year… at least according to the dream I just had last night lol! I’ve not even been keeping up with LSU all that much recently but I did dream that LSU made a run as a 3 seed with Will Wade to win it all in March after Kiffin had won the natty in year 1 of his takeover. In the dream, Kiffin and Leavitt were goofing and vibing around and I remember thinking “BK never had a connection with his players like this”. The pure elation I had was insane… I remember just running around celebrating saying “both! In the same year! When’s the last time this happened?!?”

So yeah, booking it right now, the prophecy has been told hahaha
Mom went to Parkway High in Bossier, so pulling from her I can think of Terrace Marshall Jr. and Brandon Harris (lol) recently
Nah Fox News def does that in its own way. I feel like most mainstream media promote victimhood in some kind of way. Conservatives seem more victimizing than the left these days
The comment on the main page under the Dottery video brought his controversy at Clemson to light for me, I hadn’t heard of it before. The online rumor appears to be that he was taking photos of other players in the locker room and then posting it on OnlyFans. Clemson wouldn’t really disclose other than a “violation of team rules”. But then Kiffin said this recently about the whole thing: “Something that people don’t talk about is that the person that did this to him is now in jail and is unable to do that to other people after doing it to a number of people. I love that part of his story—that he just persevered through that.” So what actually happened? What did this person do to Dottery and what did Dottery do that got him kicked off the team?
I live in DC and took a swing by the American State Fair they’ve been having on the mall since it was its last day.

I checked out Mississippi since I figured there would be some cool cultural stuff (there was!) but to my surprise they had BOTH the real CWS trophies from Ole Miss and Miss St.

They were cool to see just sitting there with no attention and one of the girls working there made the comment that they’ll likely never be in the same room again. Was fun to see SEC dominance put on display!

And yes, as an LSU fan I did have to banter with a worker insisting “back to back!” to me. Simply saying I’m an LSU fan shut him up, with him responding “ohhhh well y’all gotta share sometimes”

Max Browne also still thinks Nuss is a good QB so… that being said I do love his content generally
