Dude played sparingly and these were his stats.

51-75
68% Completion
694 Passing yards
8-2 TDs-Ints

207 Rushing Yards
2 TDs

Based on those numbers I wonder what the 2008 season would’ve been like with him starting a full season. I know it’s in the past and it doesn’t matter but damn I think we’d have another title in 2008 or 2009

Not sure about a title, we had a bad defense in 2008 and didn't quite have enough talent in 2009 IMO. But at the very least, Jarrett Lee gets time to develop and is a better QB for us.

Honestly, Les Miles would probably still be here. The QB dominoes really fell and hurt us when Perrilloux left.

Was thinking about this the other day. That Defense had its issues though so I don’t about another title.

Considering the outcomes of the 2008 games as well as the malveto DC fiasco, I think with competency at QB LSU goes 10-2.

UF and UGA would’ve probably still beat LSU, but Bama (Jarrett lee was so horrendous and single handedly gave them the game), ole miss, and Arkansas LSU could’ve beaten

Les running off Jimbo has more to do with the downward trend of LSU quarterbacks IMO. Once Flynn and Perilloux were gone, we never figured it out and couldn't help our quarterbacks to save our lives. I watched highlights of the 2008 Alabama game (because I hate myself), and Lee had horrible mechanics early on (always throwing off his back foot) that were still there in '11. Maybe Jimbo fixes that, maybe not, but Les meddled with the offense from that point on and drug it into the mud. I think 1-9 still happens, and he stubborns his way out the door eventually.

I watched clips of LSU ole miss 2008 the other day

The first TD they scored on a 3rd and 20, LSU was so out of position the ole miss receiver scored over the middle untouched

Just utter incompetence

Perilous was the reason we entered our QB talent drought to begin with. Freshman Jarrett Lee was the beginning of Les’ offensive involvement/downward spiral.

UGA beats is by 14.
Lee threw 2 pick 6’s.

that game is definitely winnable with Perilloux.

Right.

It wasn't bad players. They were lost out there. Most uncontested touchdowns I can remember against an LSU defense outside of the Tepper drop linebacking Thomas Dunson fiasco :shudders in disgust:

He’ll who knows what our Qab situation is.

Jefferson starting as a freshmen probably drove away a few QB recruits. If we have good offenses in 2008 and 2009 maybe where getting some

The defense wasn't elite, but it wasn't in 07 either- remember the two losses, we got gashed by both Arky and Ky.
I look back at games like UGA, etc- if the offense wasn't throwing gas on the fire like it was, we could have competed. Remember, JJ came in and saved the program, by simply not turning the ball over. If we had a true threat on offense, we win a LOT more games.

Oh, Miles would definitely still be here.

You have to figure 08-10 would be similar to 05-07, another stretch of 10-2 seasons, maybe with 11 getting a title if we have more developed QB's and a more open offense. Consider that Les wouldn't have implemented the "scared to lose" offense, so perhaps that alters the perception among the voters about who to take.

And we probably have a different stretch of QBs between JJ/Lee and the present.

LSU is a lot better in 2008 with RP, although as others have said the defense (more the coaching than the players) would have held us back some.

Perhaps an even bigger "what if" is the 2012 season without Tyrann Mathieu. That season basically came down to a last minute drive by Alabama. We could have used him for that.

If I recall correctly, there was an article or blog post several years ago that tracked LSU's offensive woes all back to RP. The gist of it was that RP leaving left us with Harvard transfer, Andrew Hatch who goes down with a concussion 3 games in. We then throw JLee in who has a strong arm, but is inexperienced and is never able to stop throwing picks. Then we throw in JJ before he's ready in 2009. Then we experienced some bad luck in 2010 when Zack Lee decided to play baseball instead of football.

It's possible that Zach Lee come in, in 2010 we wouldn't have had the same string of offensive woes - possibly even having a 2013 level offense in 2011. All speculation obviously.

Also, Les Miles pulling the reigns on the offense really only started after 2008 after JLee kept throwing pick sixes all over the place. There was also some evidence that Miles was a little more willing to throw if he had a capable QB as we saw in 2013 (which obviously now pales in comparison to this year).

Perilloux would have been an absolute beast running and throwing in 2008.
Les wanted to run an offense with an athletic QB for designed runs and escaping the pocket. That’s why Hatch did ok when he was in there, only problem was that he was tiny and had a noodle arm. Lee was a statue in the pocket and you never knew where the ball was going when he threw it, and that made our offense one dimensional.

I agree with this. Also we pretty much quit throwing to the middle of the field after Jarrett Lee up until this year. Even with Mett if you look up his throws I'd be willing to bet they are disproportionately more outside the hashes. Throwing the ball in the middle of the field is the biggest improvement I've seen this offense make in the last 10 years.

Maybe upon further reflection some of us old fans could think of another player-impact, e.g., Mike Miley or Honey Badger, but the reverberations of Perrilloux's dismissal are simply mind boggling.
